Since his U21 (under 23) cap with Estonia in October, he didn't get the call to the senior team in either November or January. Matvei Igonen was called over him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matvei_Igonen So this means that Vaikla is viewed as 4th (or lower) on their depth chart. With Canada he may be behind Crépeau, Leutwiler, Borjan and Thomas but he can be first choice for the U23 Olympic Qualifying in October (with Busti as 2nd choice perhaps) and he has a decent chance of fighting his way to a roster spot for the WC in 2026. Herdman said the player had played for a big country at youth level though, which Estonia isn't by any measure. It would be nice to see him switch eventually nonetheless. Not that I wouldn't mind the switch but I just don't feel the immediate need or impact if Vaikla switched to Canada. nolando

Vince193
Won't be seeing him until September. You know who I amm very interested in seeing, Victor Blasco, he has not done anything yet but he has been regularly hyped up in BC and i think he has been in Canada for 5 years now. Corazon
Great addition! The move to Cruz Azul seemed to confirm this decision. He should slide right into the midfield right away upon return from injury. Hopefully Tomori follows suit after the tournament this summer! toontownman and Chad_Impact

Keegan
2 Canadians in Liga MX!! A Canadian who calls Azteca home... With players in Scotland, Turkey and Mexico I don’t think we can worry too much about away atmospheres. Damn it’s sad this guy is hurt though.. presumably this was filmed before his injury? It would just be our luck that he has a career altering injury.

Shortdutchcanuck
Picking 4-5 MF to start out of Eustaquio, Hutch, Arfield, Davies, Hoilett, Osorio, Piette, Tabla, and Kaye is a tough call! Awesome decision to have to make though.

Our luck has changed and after years of tough sledding I think we are finally getting some well-deserved good bounces. Corazon
Regardless of how Herdman was hired and regardless of how well he does during his tenure as Head coach. He is going to be remembered for the incredible success he has had with dual nationals committing to Canada. Hopefully this becomes a trend and continues the growth of the National team! We have the Forwards (Millar, Cavallini, David, Larin) We have the keeper (Borjan, hoping Crepeau dominates in Vancouver) Next task --> Defense! Gian-Luca
It's interesting timing for the announcement given that we won't see him until sometime after the Gold Cup, but the more the merrier, I am glad he's filed his switch for us. Lots of competition now for those d-mid spots, even if he doesn't play until Atiba retires from the team. johnyb
Bikerack
This is massive imo we waited how long for junior to commit? Injury aside, really excited for his future not only with our national set up, but his club career aswell still curious is Chavez owns his other 50% or if they sold it to a rumoured bigger club toontownman and Corazon
