So I was thinking about it a bit last night, I think we're in decent shape, we've got some decent young players at multiple positions, I'll try to make a depth chart.

GK

Crepeau

LB

?

RB

?

CB

Morgan

Henry

James

M

Piette

Chapman

Laryea

Osorio

Davies

Bustos

Akindele

F

Larin

Akindele

Cavini

Wright

sorry about the spaces and if I'm lacking names ?

thoughts ? Input ? Who are we missing ? Any up and coming guys to get excited about ?

Sorry if there's another topic like this, I'm a noob here.

I'll give my version (I won't include anyone older 1985 and older):

Keeper: Borjan, Leutwiler, Thomas, Crepeau

Left back: de Jong, Tissot, Adekugbe, Morgan

Centre back: Edgar, Vitoria, James, Lefvere, Straith, Gasparotto,

Right back: Aird, Henry, Ouimette, Dixon

Left midfield: Hoilett, Akindele, Fisk, Tabla

Defensive mid: Johnson, Teibert, Piette, Bekker, Froese, Trafford

Attacking mid: Arfield, Osorio, Aleman, Chapman, Bustos

Right midfield: Ricketts, Petrasso, Davies, Babouli

Forward: Larin, Haber, Cavallini, Jackson-Hamel, Hamilton, Jackson

Subjective and players like Jackson, Davies, Tabla, Akindele, Ricketts, Froese, Petrasso, Aird, Arfield, Osorio, Teibert, , Dixon, Ouimette, Straith and Henry can play multiple positions.

By the way, had a hard time justifying Cavallini over Haber considering the latter is scoring right now. Cavallini is with a higher level club but leagues are comparable (some may enjoy the South American football and that's fine). I think Nacional and Peñerol are comparable to Celtic and Rangers (yeah Rangers are 3rd for now but they'll be back to giant status by next year).

Future of the national team = Alphonso Davies and Ballou Tabla each committing = a chance of success.

Realistically if those two commit we will get at least one cycle with them, Hoillet, Arfield and Larin.

We could do worse

Who are our best U-18 prospects ? Anyone on a Talba/Davies level ?

Well Davies and Tabla are both under 18 so i would say those two are on Davies and Tabla level

A few points about my list:

1) Potential gets overvalued. See: GK, where some youths are rated over guys with respectable but low-level careers who haven't really played much for CanMNT.

2) Dual nationality is tricky. I just sort of estimate what's likeliest to happen to them in the future. My guess about Tomori is that he's not destined for the English National Team. We'll see what happens with Tabla., although things seem to be moving in the wrong direction there. My guess about Akinola is that he ends up back in the Canada fold. but with Ebobisse laying an egg in the U20 tourney, I'm less certain about that one than a couple of weeks ago.

3) Obviously, there are some guys I don't have as high of an opinion of as others.

4) This is harder to do than the American team, just because of less opportunity to see them play.

5) If your guy is low, don't worry. There is a lot of potential to change quickly. Any LB who locks down an MLS starting role will end up in the top spot really fast.

6) Positions are mostly clear, but sometimes there's a little free-form jazz. Like, where should I put Teibert? IN the central logjam? Out left? As a potential left back?

7) I've aged out some guys who could potentially hang on.

Anyway, fun exercise. Welcome suggestions and corrections.

Are we not crowning Ballou Tabla a little too early? Just haven't seen anything to put him on the same level as Davies. Am I missing something?

You're missing that we constantly hype the future...and what we don't have.

Wait until Aleman commits, he's the saviour. YES!!!! Um, maybe not. Come on Bustos, don't desert us you'd start for us now, and we'd win! What a great player! YES!!!!! Uh, maybe not ready yet. Oh man, if only Aird commits. YES!!!!! Wait, no, now we think he sucks.

I have watched him play for FC Montreal and in the Impact pre-season and he looked good but nothing like Davies. I am no professional scout, so I think the fact that he was able to impress the Impact coaching staff and get a professional contract is a good indication that there is something to the hype. I also think he still will represent Canada.

Davies and Tabla are different players.

Tabla deserves to be in the same conversation even if he hasn't made an impact at the first team level because the guy is crazy good.  I'd say skill wise he is better than Davies.

My lord, this is the first time I've seen his skills in this light. He was doing this against a top Serie A side, at 16......I couldn't agree more.

I kinda wonder if Davies could transition to a striker, in the mold of Henry.

That would have been nice a few weeks ago...

I think Petrasso needs more mention on here. He's still only 21 has played in the championship, has scored on loan spells in league one and has played exceptionally well for Canada from u17 to u23. This guy has skills, he came back in January after 6 months off due to injury that was just after his first call up vs Azerbaijan. I really hope he's at the gold cup.

I feel a midfield with him, hoilett and ricketts up front beside larin is a good mix of speed, technical ball control and finishing.

Yea he was one of if not the best players at the CONCACAF Olympic qualifiers.  Seems he's been forgotten since his injury but definitely up there and closer to being MNT ready than most.
