I was under the impression that this was happening (minus the CSA training facility which they seem to be shopping around in York Region).

The wording makes it sound like they don't want to build it with private money only

They have their hand out.

The CEO of Woodbine says "Time for the appropriate authorities to recognize this opportunity & support it."

Support it = fund it.

Not knowing enough about the ins and outs of this project, could he also be referring to things like zoning? I imagine a project this would would have some administrative, legal and regulatory hurdles, beyond the obvious financial ones.

Has anyone posted the web link for the company being run by Rob Friend and Shillington? I finally took a look and must say, pretty good. At least promising.

Have they built anything other than Starlight?

I'm going to guess they are supposed to build the York United stadium at Woodbine race track if that ever gets off the ground.

I don't think so. I think it was a Spanish company that built it, and I believe SixFive Stadiums started afterwards. I could be wrong though

Edit: Italian designer BEAR Stadiums and supplier Rubner Holzbau

That's right.

So this will be their first real build

Vancouver might get the 5000 seat design to start while York United will get the 7500 design (same as Saskatoon) - of course, they'll be personalized to look different but I expect the skeleton to be fairly consistent.

Those type of stadiums can be built very quickly, easy to expand and on the cheaper side.

Vancouver is going to be 6,560 capacity

Burnaby city council is looking at options of what to do with Swangard stadium. Apparently this process all started because some groups approached the city about partnership arrangements or 'anchor tenancy'.

Some of the options include increasing stadium capacity to 10,000. One even considers removing the track...which I think is unlikely.

Unsurprisingly, council is not in favour of any improvements that will impact the park:

Are there talks of a legit SSS in Halifax? You'd think they want this now to take advantage of the hype before it dies down

I understand this stuff costs money but real football experiences in real football stadiums will always bring people back more than the quality on the field, especially at this level.

There is a city council meeting in Halifax about the future of the Wanderers Ground this week apparently:

The problem is likely to be is that the CFL wants to expand to Halifax so it's difficult to see a 10,000 seat stadium with a $20 million price tag getting built with public sector funding for soccer only. The current lease for the Wanderers Grounds popup only runs through 2024 apparently.
