It's too bad that Justin Morrow is probably the 2nd or 3rd best LB in MLS, he's young and signed to a long term deal. The good thing is that Edwards is very dynamic and he can shift to attacking midfielder or support striker/winger rather easily.
Bison44
Not sure why Vanney wants to try and turn an offensively minded/talented player like Edwards into A.Morgan. Selfishly speaking I would rather he stay a winger than slotted into LB, we have lots of those on CMNT. I guess it will be hard to break into TFC midfield, but probably just as hard to beat Morrow for minutes.
shermanator
Irwin is out 4-5 weeks. Looks like Pais will backup Bono which means more opportunity for Cavaluzzo at TFC II. http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/tfc-keeper-clint-irwin-4-5-weeks-hamstring-strain/

Clearly he's a winger, but learning the defensive side of the game can only be good for him, and will also give him more chances to play.

I think TFC's midfield plays closer to the centre of the field and Edwards' playing style so far has not been that. The wingback LB position TFC use might be the closest to his skillset. Maybe he will be used further up the field if Vanney changes formation in need of a goal or because of injuries.
Yohan
Left wingbacks already have freedom to push up as far as they want with Beitashour being more conservative on supporting an attack. TFC often plays more like 3-4-3/4-3-3 in attack than not.
Gian-Luca
Mark Pais has signed a first team deal, obviously only done now because they couldn't just dress Bono for the next 5 weeks in goal. Looking at the first team roster currently listed on the website, this would be the 28th member of the first team (although that includes Aubrey who doesn't seem to be on the radar for the first team this year given the signing of Hernandez). That would leave two spots open, presumably for Spencer whom they seem keen to sign to the first team (despite not having a good goal scoring record at all for TFC II thus far), and then Fraser, if Vanney's words are to be believed. Which would mean having to make trades or releasing players to acquire other players mid-season. To be honest, not sure what the rush is for either Spencer or Fraser to the first team. I didn't think Fraser looked that good in the 4-0 drubbing by Tampa Bay last week, while they still have Cheyrou, Delgado, Chapman and Camargo (who finally saw some action late against Tampa for TFC II and looked pretty good I thought) on the first team in central midfield not getting any minutes as yet. Same with Spencer given that Hamilton & Babouli are both young and haven't seen any playing time yet this season. So as much as I want to see another Canuck signed for the first team in Fraser, I'd rather they just took their time and left them there with TFC II than to take the spot of a another young (if not quite as young) Canadian on the first team roster. Gian-Luca
Not sure that this was worthy of its own thread so sticking it here: for what it's worth, this article lists Luca Petrasso of TFC as one of the 10 MLS academy players to watch at the Generation Adidas Cup http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/04/07/parchman-10-mls-academy-stars-watch-generation-adidas-cup

shermanator
Interesting article by Kurt Larson on Jonathan Osorio. Surprisingly to me, Larson argues that TFC supporters should be more supportive of Canadian players at the club. http://www.torontosun.com/2017/04/06/tfcs-jonathan-osorio-wants-bragging-rights-for-hometown Toronto’s fickle fan base is all over the place when it comes to guys like Osorio and Tosaint Ricketts. Canadians who should get the benefit of the doubt become scapegoats when they have bad moments. We too often devour our own in Toronto. “It’s great to play at home and every player will tell you their dream is to play for the hometown club,” Osorio said. “It’s the best feeling. But along with that comes pressure. “It’s crazy. If I played on another team — and had a bad performance — I could go home and not face my family or the people I care about or their opinions. If I have a bad game here, I have to face my family and see them and see a disappointed face. They’re walking with me out of the game and the fans are looking at my family because of my performance.” He added he wouldn’t trade his first four seasons at BMO Field for anything. Osorio often talks about proving people wrong in his pursuit of becoming a bigger player. Truth be told, if Osorio was American, MLS pundits would be drooling all over him — like they have for lesser players across MLS. It’s more difficult for 24-year-old Canadians like Osorio to make a name for themselves in MLS. It’s why Toronto FC fans should get behind players like Osorio and Ricketts and Ashtone Morgan — guys who are playing in a league dominated by Americans. Osorio shouldn’t need to apologize to supporters after matches. The equity and credibility he’s built at BMO Field over five years should be enough. First off, I agree that he should not be apologizing to supporters on social media. He just needs to play his game and, in the words of Bill Belichick, ignore the noise, don't buy into the hype, and simply just do his job. However, if he implies that he's under more pressure here than elsewhere in his pursuit of becoming a bigger player, he needs to talk to a few more players who know what it's really like to be in a truly big time soccer environment and under constant scrutiny with sometimes vicious critique of every element of their performances. He should look at this as a valuable learning experience and motivation.

Playing for your hometown club strengthens you mentally when you're under that sort of scrutiny and pressure. Our players need to learn how to be stronger mentally. This is a good thing. Dub Narcotic
It would be interesting to see Osorio play somewhere else. To me, he is similar to a Nick LaBrocca, a solidly average MLS midfielder with a bit of creative flair but not a difference maker. He's just entering his peak years so he would not be a bad pickup for someone else in the league.
Gian-Luca
No Canadians in the starting lineup for TFC today after three were last week. The same three who started are on the bench along with Chapman. Morgan, Hamilton and Babouli not dressed (Camargo played last night for TFC 2 so not a surprise that he is not with the senior team today). Club Linesman
Though Mavinga was good at the start but was responsible for the second goal. Agree that Ricketts should have been in before the 80 minute mark, and love Giovinco but the incessant whining has to stop - he may have had a game winner if he wasn't too busy screaming at the linesman. Club Linesman
Forgot how bad Bono was, especially on the first. IMO on the second one when Mavinga is central and much faster than Moor he shouldn't have been caught on the long ball. Of course it would have been nice if his goalie had made a stop.
