Kent
So it looks like we still aren't bringing in SAAC kids? What is that global satellite academy about? A quick look at their webpage looks like they don't play in a league, just camps and tourneys. Its a shame that grown men can choose to play in an outlaw league that is a play toy for organized crime and still get on the national beach soccer team, but kids choosing to play for an academy that may give them the best shot at a pro career get shunned by the CSA, at least until they turn pro. Not knowing the youth scene in Ontario, could you provide the Cole's notes version of what is going on? Or is there someplace to find this info? Or is there someplace to find this info? I am not involved personally, but from what I have read in the past it's a little something like this. SAAC is the league of some soccer academies, the highest profile being Sigma (graduates include Cyle Larin, Kyle Bekker, etc). They aren't officially sanctioned by the Ontario Soccer Association (they are "recognized" but not sanctioned, whatever that means) because the OSA sanctioned clubs voted against letting them in. They claim it is because the cost is too high for kids, but it seems the real reason is that they feel threatened by these academies. That means these clubs are not allowed in the OPDL despite the fact that the coaching standards that the OPDL has adopted was actually created and used by SAAC, and now from what I understand, the cost to play for an OPDL or SAAC club is about the same. Long story short, players from SAAC academies seem to be overlooked for national teams until they play on a college team or a pro team. Basically, the CSA overlooks this significant part of our player pool.

Why would these academies (like Sigma) be allowed into League1 Ontario, which I assumes is sanctioned by the OSA, but not the OPDL?

Obinna
I really like this format. If you are running a development program, you may as well identify and select players who are not playing in an MLS / NASL academy. We cast a wider net in this way. Kent
I was wondering why this thread wasn't updated with scores the last couple days. Checked the Canada soccer twitter feed to find results, but they got really cryptic. This is what I think happened. Thursday: Vancouver beat Edmonton 1-0 Toronto FC beat Canada, at least 3-0. That was the halftime score and there weren't any updates after that. Friday: Vancouver beat Toronto 2-1 Canada beat Montreal 1-
Kent
I just realized Wednesday results aren't on here either. Canada beat Edmonton approximately 4-1 (last mention of the game) TFC likely beat Montreal, last mention was 1-0 for Toronto.

Kent
So I think that's Toronto and Vancouver with 3 wins each, Montreal and Canada with 2 wins each, and Edmonton with 0 wins. No draws and no evidence that there were shootouts or even overtime.
