[ 1 ]  FT.  Canada 1 - 0 Sweden.  Pleased that Janine Beckie scored.

[ 2 ]  A little concerned that Christine Sinclair is losing some foot races  to balls, but she had a nice assist on Janine Beckie's goal.

[ 3 ]  Looks like Ashley Lawrence  is going to be Canada's starting right back from now on. She's comfortable and effective in the role . You saw that from her at PSG in the first leg of UWCL quarter final  against Bayern Munich.

[ 4 ]  Thought that Jessie Fleming played a lazy  game today. She typically reads the game well so she rarely gets caught out of position defensively. But that said, not a lot happened for her going forward. Sweden played a 4-4-2 and the midfield was crowded.  So in tight traffic and under pressure,  Fleming's touches and passes were rushed and wayward. In other stretches  of the match, Fleming  didn't make herself available and consequently saw little of the ball.  It really felt like a half hearted  effort from a player whose mind was not focused on the match. She is capable of being more effective out there-- quicker , more precise, better anticipation, and being ahead of the play.

[ 5 ]  Sweden's starting 11 wasn't their best offensively.. Schelin  and Blackstenius  started on the bench, and Sundhage  chose to experiment with a 21 year old Hurtig up top with Schough ( Aslanni deployed in the midfield ) In addition, Sweden did not  call up Sofia Jakobsson  who's averaging a goal a game for Montpellier in D1F. But even then, the current trend  is that Sweden is not scoring a lot of goals. They only scored 4 goals in 6 matches (  two of them by Blackstenius ) to win silver in the 2016 Rio Olympics   And Sweden only scored 1 goal in 3 group stage matches in the 2017 Algarve Cup  --  subsequently finishing seventh in the tournament.  I don't think it's a stretch to say that Sundhage's defensive set up is taking away from their offense.

Jakobsson had an ACL injury, so that's why she wasn't called.

^ Thanks for that. I missed Jakobsson's  ACL.  I think the broader point is that  Sweden under Sundhage have not been  scoring a lot goals  lately -- even with  a lot of their  best attackers in the lineup. In today's match I don't recall Sweden getting any real chances against Canada in the first half. In the second half, Sweden's  attack got a little bit better when Hurtig and later Schough were subbed off for Blackstenius,  and Schelin;  and Sweden began pressing for an equalizer. But even then, nothing clear cut -- just half chances.
