North American Soccer League Releases 2017 Schedule

The league’s split-season schedule will feature a 16-game Spring Season and a 16-game Fall Season. Within each season, every club will play the other seven opponents home and away, plus two additional matchups. The Spring Season Champion and Fall Season Champion will each earn a spot – and semifinal hosting rights – in The Championship, the league’s four-club postseason tournament.

The remaining two postseason spots will go to the two clubs that collect the most combined points over the course of the overall 32-game competition (Spring and Fall Seasons).

“Over the years, our intense split-season competition has produced the drama and excitement that fans crave,” Sehgal said. “The 2017 season will be no different, and we can’t wait to watch our clubs battle each other week in and week out.”

New York Cosmos Moving to MCU Park in Brooklyn

"With the Cosmos coming to Brooklyn, we're adding a world class franchise to New York City's proud soccer tradition,” said New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio.  “We couldn't be more proud to welcome the New York Cosmos to the five boroughs."

“Coney Island has been an iconic destination for generations of New York families,” said Brooklyn Borough President, Eric L. Adams. “This historic Brooklyn neighborhood’s remarkable renaissance will hopefully accelerate even further with the move of the New York Cosmos to MCU Park.”

"The New York Cosmos are back where they belong: New York City,” said New York City Councilman, Vincent Gentile.  “Cementing themselves in Brooklyn at MCU Park in Coney Island with a passionate fan base dating back to the 1970's, the Cosmos will attract soccer fans and casual fans of the beautiful game alike."

Italian Forward Amauri Joins Cosmos

“The New York Cosmos are one of the most storied soccer clubs in the world, as well as the defending NASL Champions,” Amauri said. “I look forward to helping the team win yet another championship.”

After growing up in Brazil and leaving Santa Catarina Clube, it is in Italy where Amauri made his name. The striker went on to play for renowned clubs such as Juventus, Napoli, and Fiorentina, scoring over 80 goals over the course of 16 years in Serie A and making one appearance with the Italian national team. Amauri joined the Fort Lauderdale Strikers last August and recorded five goals and one assist in 826 minutes of play.

Is there any real reason to be concerned puerto rico fc and the puerto rico fa might be suspended by fifa?

None :

Puerto Rican federation issues “official position” on situation with FIFA

In response to your e-mail received today March 17 in which you request “an official position about any possibility of disaffiliation of the FPF from FIFA”. I understand perfectly your worries regarding some false and speculative digital publications in the past couple of days. Through this medium I officially assure you that no process of disaffiliation of the FPF from FIFA exists. Also, I want you to know, that there is no risk of the FPF being disaffiliated or even the risk of such process being started.

The FPF is in good standing with FIFA and no circumstance currently exists that puts that good standing in jeopardy. Any information published stating the opposite is False, Defamatory, Libelous, and Ill Intentioned, looking to destabilize thee development of football in the island, in particular, the great job Puerto Rico FC has done in the North American Soccer League.

Watched the final 30 minutes of the San Francisco home opener. Its a nice venue for NASL. However the field seemed very narrow. It looked like the players did not have any space and the game was very choppy as a result. Too bad, as the product could suffer.

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought that. It was hard to see while I was watching it on my phone (pretty sweet to have the San Fran games for free on Twitter though).

This is from a week ago, but a great interview with NASL interim commissioner.
http://www.wralsportsfan.com/soccer/audio/16614189/

Good to hear how the NASL has made positive changes to ensure the long term future of the league, more league oversight in club financials, luxury tax on high salaries(2 clubs being in that situation this year, likely the Miami FC and New York Cosmos), an expansion committee and increased vetting on new clubs. Strikers and Rayo were mentioned as well, a Strikers sale and return to the league would be a big help for the league in its adding of 4 clubs for 2018.

Only 1,700 in San Francisco though which is disappointing for only their second game.

Yes, they had 4100 for their opener so dropped quite a bit. Still early though and they seem to have strong ownership so hopefully they find a way to bring in the fans.
