Adam Straith

Nuts - Straith seemed to have his confidence.  Hopefully he will earn the new coach's trust.

Is this normal for Lotte?  My impression was that they are a small team hitting where they would be expected to hit (mid to lower half of division).  Also, there was a marked improvement between August and September, and then a recent dip.  Seems strange to can the guy now unless there were other factors involved.

The first guy got a better offer and the club let him go instead of forcing him to stay so not really their fault. Not sure why the second quit after one game. The coach that brought Straith in had a conflict with one of their best players and was being booed by the fans so maybe there were some problems leading to the firing. Results had gotten better since the start of the year but their last 3 games against teams of a similar spot in the table only produced 1 draw and 2 defeats. The population of Lotte is less than 15 000 and attendance is usually between 1000 and 4000 with the larger number being when they play a team with a lot of away fans. They should probably be in the 4th or 5th division so any coach who can keep them above the relegation zone is doing a good job. Straith should be safe though since he has been very solid for them since he arrived.

Straith seems to have been named captain of Lotte. The article below is from last week and asks whether he will be the new captain since he has been wearing the arm band during pre-season. It says the coach has not yet made the decision but Straith also wore the armband during today's season opener.

Straith is out for 3 weeks with a partial tear of an inner ligament of his knee. A lot of chaos in Lotte with the firing of their coach. After poor results he suspended 4 players so most of the rest of the players boycotted practice in solidarity so the team and he mutually parted ways. Last year Lotte had 3 coaches. The team maybe be poorly run but it may also be due to them being at least one if not two divisions too high for a team and town of their size so it is hard to get results on a team with likely a fairly low player budget. They lost their first game under the interim coach 1-0 this week and are in last place with only 1 point from 5 games.

We are looking for outside help at CB to the point where we are starting to get excited about Ferriera, a guy who already played for Portugal and has expressed no desire to play for us. Did I mention he is 27 years old and made of glass?

I remember a certain Ayo Akinola thread, where certain posters took issue with the young man for not committing to us, suggesting we should give future calls to others who may be more committed. I find the absence of such comments with Ferreira interesting. Is it because he plays CB?

Well ladies and gentleman, I present to you Adam Straith.

Just 2 years older, Straith offers much more experience (has played nearly 3 x more club games than Ferreira). He's even played for Canada before, 43 times in fact! No doubts about this guys commitment to Canada.

As Stryler911 says, he could find himself back in the 2.Bundesliga which is a pretty good level. With 9 games under his belt this season, he may earn more minutes than Ferreira does with Belenenses.

I really like Straith, he's a leader and a hard worker but I don't think he's playing at a high enough level or playing often enough right now to start for us unless we are playing against a minnow. That being said I would still call him up as he's a vastly experienced player, he brings leadership and character to squad. Imo Jakovic if he continues to play for Lafc probably deserves to get a call up ahead of Straith.

Which is why I don't get the Ferreira hype.

If Vittoria can come out of the desert like Moses at 30+, why not Straith?  Lots of CMNT games, although he did benefit from Floros famous 6CB attack.  And while we are grasping at straws, Jakovic is still getting minutes in MLS.  he's only thirty mumble mumble.  Seriously though, the Ferriera thread is out there, we could recycle older guys, but I would rather give Waterman, Didic, Zator, Miller, one of the youngish bulls a run in the pasture first.  Its a real shame we didnt get to play those 2 T+T games, we could have tried out some new pairings.

I have to agree with you I'd definitely give the younger guys play time and call ups over Jakovic, Straith and the other old guys. I think that playing for NT would be a really good for a lot of these younger guys as it could help them get moves to better leagues , it would give them experience and it would mean they could get integrated into the NT setup. I'd really rather see Waterman, Kennedy or Didic get a call up over Jakovic, Straith or Ferreira.

I agree with this too. I think it's good to keep Straith and Jakovic (possibly Edgar too) in and around the set up if they are in form, but Waterman, Didic, Miller etc., these guys are the future.

More importantly for me is that we don't hang our hopes on Ferreira. If he really turns it around with some outstanding performances for his club then he's back in play as far as I am concerned. I just don't want to jump the gun on that. I mean, people can do what they want obviously. If anyone is excited about him feel free to keep getting excited. It's just that I am personally more interested in the players who are committed to us or at least are expected to be, such as Waterman.

I need to see a little more from uncommitted players is basically what I am saying.

After staying healthy and getting a good season finished, THEN Ferreira would have to become interested in playing for canada, THEN file a switch eh??  Weirder things have happened, ie Arfield coming at 27 and that was a real boost to the program.  Straith working his way back into the picture seems much more plausable.

Arfield gave us a boost because he is a fantastic player.

If Ferreira is playing anywhere close to the level Arfield was back then, there is no way he is interested to play for Canada.

Think about it, this guy has been approached multiple times by Canada over the years and refused, and even as recent as 2018 he stated he wants to get back into the Portugal set up. The only way he considers Canada in the future is when Portugal becomes unrealistic to him, and he may not be interested even then.

If you offer me the current versions of Straith and Ferreira, I am going with Straith.

Yeah I jsut don't see why Ferreira would play for us now after declining so many times. He obviously values playing for Portgual more than us. And I don't see how jetting around and playing in North and Central America helps him given his career is sort of on the brink from injury.

While I love Adam and everything he has done for the national team, we’re comparing a guy who played the majority of his career in Bundesliga.3, to a guy who was playing for big clubs in Portugal and was once at least considered part of their National set up. While I recognize Ricardos injury woes/Canada woes, we have no where near the depth or talent to be turning down someone of this degree. If we were paying a big WCQ in a couple months, and we had the choice between Straith/Ferreira, should really be a no brainer. Of course that is, if Ricardo is getting semi decent playing time

But we arent turning him down...he turned us down and I have yet to see anyone come up with info that he has changed his mind.  Other people that have switched we usually hear some rumblings...they say something in the media etc.  Weirder things have happened but if your holding your breath, at least wait until Ferrira give some sort of hint he is interested.

I’m purely speaking on the Straith vs Ferreira argument. If he’s turning down calls, then so be it. But to be saying we should be picking Straith over Ferreira, long shot

The past is the past. Right now his pedigree is bench player at a mid-table Portugese club until he proves otherwise.

Straith is a bench player at a club challenging for 2.Bundesliga promotion.

Without seeing either of them play recently, I am going to hazard a guess that both are a similar level right now, just based on their situations.

And of they are at a similar level, tie breaker goes to the guy with 43 Canadian caps :)

The man has barely played this season in the 3rd. Liga. If we're talking about Adam, then we should be also talking about Andre who is actually playing. Also if Ricardo can get a run of games/minutes in the Primeira Liga and wants to play for Canada - I'm 100% calling him over Straith.

Thanks Adam for your time and commitment to the CMNT, but your time is up. @Obinna you've mentioned Henry & James faults - I've seen them with this guy too.

Like someone mentioned in the Ferreira thread....I rather see guys like Waterman, Zator, or Didic who have years of development/betterment ahead of them.

My point was not that Adam has done enough to get back in the team. My point is that Ricardo needs to do a lot more to justify the excitement, because right now he is no better than Straith, who has not done enough to get into the team, like I said.

Ricardo needs to prove he is good enough for Canada. Right now he is not. That can absolutely change, but we are not there yet. We may never get there. We'll have to see.

years of betterment ahead..waterman yes..didic and zator are 94's..straith 90..henry and james 93..not a big difference..didic had plenty of chances to make mls but didnt and his cpl performances showed that hes not getting closer

Much like Kaye had his chances to make TFC but didnt.  And his first season in Louisville showed he wasnt getting any closer.  Good thing he didnt stick with it.  Come to think Crepeau had his chances to make Impact but didnt, I assume he was done after that at well??
