Wasn’t there someone named Ricci that was in the Impact youth/reserve teams? What was his first name?

Luca Ricci. A former Montréal Impact academy player who spent this past season with Phoenix Rising in the USL.

Sandor's article mentioning guys like Fordyce and Ricketts are not manageable budget-wise fir FCE and Paulus saying the roster is almost complete, even though there have been virtually no  Canadian players currently outside of Edmonton, let alone Canada, linked to the club has me thinking we should all be prepared to be underwhelmed tomorrow and over the coming weeks. Reading this, I'm thinking those tryouts (and a mix of local amateurs) might form a lot more of some rosters than many V's would have initially expected or hoped. Maybe Porter will turn out to be a big name signing in this league after all. Geez, I sure hope not.

Daryl Fordyce is only back in Northern Ireland for a visit (in with the home support at Linfield vs Cliftonville last weekend in the tweet below) judging by what's on twitter:

so, if he's out of reach financially, I suspect it could be because he can make more money in a regular job given he appears not to have played anywhere professionally this past summer:

“Certainly you want to look at good players, and Daryl is that,” said Paulus. “But things just aren’t going to work out for us for this upcoming year. But in the future, you never know. I certainly wish Daryl all the best, he’s the club’s leading scorer. This club owes a lot to Daryl Fordyce. But this is a different model that we’re bringing into play here, so changes have to made.”

The quotes on Fordyce and Ricketts show different things to me. I feel it shows that Ricketts would be the ideal target, and Paulus could see him as a great fit, but he simply will want too much money to fit into the year one cap.

Whereas, I feel the response on Fordyce is more of a politeful way of acknowledging his past contributions, but recognizing he is not a fit. I know the two are the same age, but Fordyce has substantially more appearances (Probably over 400 with cup games) and probably has played more minutes in those appearances then Ricketts. In addition, he did not play at all, as far as I can tell, this season and seems to have been minimally productive in his 2017 NASL anyways. Therefore, although he would be a great professional role model, he would likely not be that productive and take a chunk of salary that is too large.

A fairly recent Belfast Telegraph interview:

...

Q. You have been doing your Uefa A and B coaching badges in Belfast. What was the motivation behind that?

A. I wasn't sure about it but players and coaches in Canada recommended it. I felt awkward at the start of the course but I developed a love for it.

Q. Where will you resume your career?

A. I'm 31 and still want to play. Canada is my long-term home and I was pleased to see Edmonton have been resurrected with the new Canadian League starting next April. I'm talking to a few teams at the moment but still waiting on Luka's passport so can't go anywhere yet. It looks like we will stay in Canada.

One team might give me the Under-16 Academy to run as well as joining the first-team backroom staff. I could still play as well and it would be a nice start to my coaching career.

Not a whole lot of consensus on who Wanderers signing may be. I'm thinking it is either Sukunda Fisk. Sukunda probably fits better into the interview Hart gave the league. Anyone know if Fisk has eve been deployed as a fullback? Or if Sukunda has played farther forward?

Fisk played some RB with Deportivo B IIRC.

That's the way they should go about it. If you can't sign him with pay, try get him with secondary benefits, like the option to coach.

Too bad it won't be in Edmonton (if I read between the lines correctly).

Maybe Simon Thomas for Pacific? At the very least the player is from Vancouver Island and it sounds like he's been away for quite some time, so Simon definitely fits the bill.

Edmonton's player sounds a lot like Randi Edwini-Bonsu to me. Obviously the other player is going to be Allan Zebie.

Halifax's player isn't from Halifax, and that's about all we get from this one.

#1 is obviously Ledgerwood. #2 isn't from Alberta, has apparently lived there recently and a we know he's supposed to be a young attacking player. Moses Danto fits the bill and I guess he'd be the best guess?

Haha MAK spilling the beans

A local and intends to be a leader for the team, seems close enough.

Kyle Bekker and “don’t blink when he’s on the pitch” don’t seem to jive.

Pasher and Nanco would probably fit that bill though.

True, but Pasher and Nanco are both fairly young and don't have much experience except in the USL. So, they wouldn't really jive with the "I’m going to be a leader for the young guys and be an example for others to look up to" bit.

Pasher would probably fit more.. also the player looks to be a white guy.

Pasher has been a pro since 2013, same year as Bekker so I don’t think it’s a big stretch to count him as a vet if you consider Bekker one.

Hart spilled slightly more about the Halifax signing in his interview. Wide player, has played fullback and on the wing, has recently played abroad. That's why I'm thinking Fisk or Sukunda

I wouldn't guess Thomas for Pacific FC but rather someone who's been playing in the 4th division of Germany or France as Friend says he needs to be in a professional environment. I'm thinking Kadin Chung right now (I know, he's been in D5 lately). But he fits the bill of a former youth international as well.

I could be completely wrong of course.

Even if you don't take into account the snooping and the rumours from the past week, these are still not surprising signings. Pretty much exactly the type of player I thought would be signed. Now the question is, what will a star player look like (or is it already a guy like Bekker?), and just how many of this level of player will each team have (i.e. are they average or core starter level?).

Considering Bekker was one of the best players in USL last season and could easily be attached to an MLS side this is the type of player I’d expect to be a star.

Most of these guys are the types that were on the cusp of MLS but for whatever reason never got their shot so mission accomplished so far.

It will be curious to see how the roster construction goes from here. It is always fun to do a bit of instant analysis, and well if I had to predict the league based on the first signings, I like Forge FC, and not so confident in Halifax. I am happy with Kadin Chung for Pacific FC, but definitely strikes me as a building pick, versus lets win the league in year one.
