[ 1 ]    Fixtures: http://www.womenssoccerunited.com/algarve-cup-2017-teams-and-groups-announced/

Wednesday , March 1, 2017           Denmark vs Canada

Friday ,        March   3,   2017         Russia vs  Canada

Monday ,    March  6, 2017               Portugal vs Canada

[ 2 ] It's worth bearing in mind that all three of Canada's  group A opponents are building towards a big tournament in the late summer: the  UEFA Women's Euro 2017 Netherlands. So perhaps their intensity could be a bit higher. That said, the CANWNT should have too much for Russia and Portugal.    Denmark ( Pernille Harder, Nadia Nadim ) did defeat Canada in last year's Algarve Cup, so a chance for a little bit of revenge. Hopefully Sinclair scores a few and hopefully Canada can win their second consecutive Algarve Cup.

The CSA and their TV deals are a farse.  From the president down they don't have the guts or concern for the soccer fans in Canada.  Our men and women wear their Canada jersey with pride to represent their country, but alas! no one at home can see them play.

[ 1 ]  The Danish football association  ( DBU )  will be streaming the opener against CANWNT  on their DBU tv ( DBU Web TV), so hopefully we can see it here if there are no other options:

[ 2 ]  According to the Algarve Cup's official schedule the match starts 18:30 local time which would be 10:30 am PT / 1:30 pm ET ( March 1, 2017)

[ 3 ] No Nadia Nadim on Denmark's  Algarve Cup roster. She was injured in October and did not play in Denmark's two friendlies against Scotland in January ( both matches ended  in a draw).  But Denmark still has Pernille Harder, who won the 2016 Damallsvenskan title with Linkoping FC and was the league's top goal scorer in 2016 (she recenlty made the move to Wolfsburg in Germany). Pernille Harder was also named to the 55 player Women's World XI  short list by FIFAPro.

I'll bet Labbé gets the start vs Denmark but I hope it's D'Angelo.

Our starting XI is pretty much what I expected: C52XhonUsAE7lli.jpg

I don't know what that Danish defender ( #5 Boye ) was thinking: she stretched her hand upwards  and outwards into the air and  brought  the ball down with her hand ( a handball in the box! ) for Sinclair to opportunistically  pounce on  and score the 90'  game winner.

[ 1 ] Pleased that Christine Sinclair got her second goal of the tournament and that Canada got the win.

[ 2 ] It seems like the Russians did well against Canada in the second half:

Joe Terry @JoeTerry1508 54m54 minutes ago

90+3: Full time. Great battling performance from #Russia in the second half, could easily have equalised #RUSCAN 1-2

[ 3 ] Russians didn't stream the match but they did have an online text broadcast:

http://www.rfs.ru/tournaments/national/matches/st452/tb2/tn139/17048.html#tab3

google translate version:

90 + 3 The match is over. Unfortunately, we yield - 1: 2.
90 + 2 At the last minute of added time creates a very dangerous team in Canada. It is shed in our penalty area, in which confusion reigns. As a result, the ball flies wide of the mark, but it could have ended differently.
90 Three minutes added to the main time of the second half.
Last 89 minutes pass in mutual attacks. Very actively working our girls!
88 Our team played very devotedly, recklessly, with a great desire! Russians are constantly forced the opponent to make mistakes. Canadians obviously did not expect such resistance!
Canadian 82 delivers the corner - Shcherbak firmly catches the ball at the exit. Tanya immediately makes a pass to Kovalenko, that moves on the wing and gives the luxury transfer Korovkina that knock. Now Nelly provide medical assistance.
79 Substitution. Carl Gabriel (Canada) comes out.
79 Substitution. Sophie Schmidt (Canada) takes.
79 Yellow card. Chernomyrdin Margarita (Russia).
77 A very dangerous moment creates a Russian national team! Korovkina makes the transfer on Pantyukhina, she passes on Terekhov, which from under the feet of the ball takes kanadok goalkeeper.
75 Substitution. Lamontan Alexandria (Canada) comes out.
75 Substitution. Becky Janine (Canada) leaves.
70 Substitution. Kostareva Elena (Russia) goes out.
70 Substitution. Sochneva Ekaterina (Russia) away.
67 Terekhova intercepts sloppy pass, giving the ball Korovkina. Nelly rushes to the gate and has a good position. Unfortunately, the impact is not enough power.
66 Substitution. Ksenia Kovalenko (Russia) goes.
66 Substitution. Ekaterina Morozova (Russia) takes.
After a goal 65 Russian women went to a ball game more interesting. It has become a double-edged. We see that Canadians get angry and at the same time a little bit confused. The score is not as comfortable for the opponent.
60 Substitution. Prince Nishell (Canada) comes out.
60 Substitution. Deanne Rose (Canada) leaves.
60 Substitution. Scott Deysri (Canada) comes out.
60 Substitution. Rebecca Quinn (Canada) leaves.
59 Terekhova from the right side put the Canadian penalty area with a "standard", and Makarenko head just gets past the goalie.
58 Daria Makarenko (Russia) scores!
58 Russians intercept the ball. Nelly Korovkina moves with it, making the transfer of the right to Pantyukhina, that he immediately returned it back to the center of the penalty, but the defenders of Canada to cope with this threat.
55 Ekaterina Morozova makes a pass to Pantyukhina, that gives high gear long ball towards Sochneva that push in the back. Whistle silent.
53 Yellow card. Anna Kozhnikova (Russia).
52 Pantyukhina hold of the ball in midfield, moves with it and tries to throw the goalkeeper long-range shot, but her attempt fails.
50 Janine Becky after positional kanadok attack effort on goal, but the ball flies above.
46 Substitution. Korovkina Nelly (Russia) goes.
46 Substitution. Elena Morozova (Russia) takes.
46 The second half begins.
45 + 1 The referee at the break.
45 One minute is added to the principal of the first half time.
41 When our team has the ball, it is trying to send into the breach Catherine Sochneva. However, Canadians are showing care, every time intercepting the ball.
37 Our team is conducting a very good mnogohodovki involving several players. As a result, Elena Morozova sends Pantyukhina the left flank, but again did not have enough accuracy.
33 Anna Cholovyaga well selected from the defense, pulling the ball and makes a pass to the left flank to the oncoming Catherine Sochneva. A little inaccurate, but could get a very good attack.
27 Captain kanadok moved in the middle and calmly struck the ball past the helpless target Tatiana Shcherbak.
26 Christine Sinclair (Canada) scores!
23 Pantyukhina breaks down the left, trying to overtake the extreme Canadian defender, but he gives away. Terekhova with "standard" put into the box, but the defense of "Maple Leaf" to cope with this threat.
20 carries out dangerous attacks Team Canada. After a pass from the right flank Shcherbak output does not get the ball, you should transfer back into the penalty area, where Jesse Fleming has an empty goal, but the ball flies above the target.
16 Because of the forced replacement Danilova Russians have changed little arrangement. Catherine Sochneva moved from the left flank to the forward position, and came out on the field Pantyukhina has taken a position on the left. In general, Canadians own a tangible advantage, attack our gates. business almost comes to scoring chances, but the pressure is decent.
11 The next attack is carried out Canadians. First hit deals Janine Becky, and then Deanne Rose, but both times they block our defenders.
10 after a short corner, Sophie Schmidt literally meters forwards ball Tatiana Shcherbak.
9 Sophie Schmidt (Canada) scores!
8 Forced replacement of the national team of Russia. Already in the opening game injured Elena Danilova, instead of which appeared on the Catherine Pantyukhina.
7 Substitution. Pantyukhina Ekaterina (Russia) goes out.
7 Substitution. Elena Danilova (Russia) away.
7 Both teams started the match actively. It should be noted that the lane

Pretty fortunate path to the final.  Swap any of the eight teams from Group B/C with Canada in Group A and they are likely in the final too.

Iceland 0-0 Spain

Japan 2-0 Norway

Australia 2-1 China

Netherlands 1-0 Sweden

Swedes fall to the Dutch and give the group to Australia.  Fantastic accomplishment for the Spanish.  Their association manages tournaments very well.

Win v. #38 Portugal today and play Spain in the final.
