Joe MacCarthy
No idea what you're talking about, I'm referring to ref's usual crazy comment about "heavy upstairs"
Sinc_Tanc_Olympic_Action
Actually, I don't think The Ref means that Sydney is too stuck up to play for Canada either because we were talking about how the other USA players can't do what Wambach did. There's got to be another meaning to being heavy upstairs. Does this just mean being fat??

tc-in-bc
Re. Leroux [ 1 ] The Ref is implying bawdily that Sydney Leroux has no aerial game because her cleavage is top heavy. [ 2 ] Read somewhere that Sydney Leroux's disenchantment with Canada dates back to the 2004 Thailand FIFA U-19 WWC where some of the "older" Canadian players made fun of /picked on ( then ) 14-year old Sydney Leroux. Maybe she has no sense of humour?

One American
As usual, Hope is 100% right. It would be a shame if Sweden won the gold playing the way they are.

Lol. Bullshit. The scoreline doesn't lie. The "better" team (on the day) did not lose.
dyslexic nam
US Soccer just suspended her for 6 months. Maybe that will be the gentle push she needs to start her career as a fluffer.

If every player or coach were to be suspended for 6 months for negative comments made about an opponent after a loss in a big game, we'd be seeing these suspensions a a couple times a month and a lot of big name players on the side lines (remember Ronaldo's comments about Iceland?). Something else must have happened.

dyslexic nam
From the ESPN article: "The comments by Hope Solo after the match against Sweden during the 2016 Olympics were unacceptable and do not meet the standard of conduct we require from our National Team players," U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said in a statement Wednesday. "Beyond the athletic arena, and beyond the results, the Olympics celebrate and represent the ideals of fair play and respect. We expect all of our representatives to honor those principles, with no exceptions. "Taking into consideration the past incidents involving Hope, as well as the private conversations we've had requiring her to conduct herself in a manner befitting a U.S. National Team member, U.S. Soccer determined this is the appropriate disciplinary action." ------------ http://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/article/17385530/hope-solo-suspended-six-months-us-soccer So it seems to be the comments, coupled with the fact that she is a consistently shitty human being. Yes, Hope Solo tends to be on the headlines more than others and controversy seems to follow her, but in spite of all that, she is still being given the number one goalkeeper job. So Mr. Gulati, you can't have it both ways or use her past against her and not others.
dyslexic nam
I tend to think this is really just damage control, considering consistently shitty behaviour would have warranted sanctioning her before the Olympics, not after. As it stands, this just looks like PR spin when nothing is really on the line.

Sinc_Tanc_Olympic_Action
Just read that article. Hope referenced herself as the best goalkeeper in the world. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to call yourself that when your team got an early elimination.

They cancelled her (apparently very lucrative contract). Cynically, I definitely believe this was a very convenient time for the Americans to punish her without really punishing themselves, but it is certainly hurting her financially
Dub Narcotic
The time to do this was after her domestic violence conviction not after this ludicrously overblown tempest in a teacup.
Vic
Solo said what we've all thought a hundred times in games after we've lost. She just made the mistake of using her outside voice. So ironic she lost to Sweden because Hedvig Lindahl is Swedish for "oh sh*t" You knew the Jill Ellis hire was an own goal waiting to happen. It just took longer than expected. Tom Sermani probably had a good grin.
