Marcus Haber

Recommended Posts

I don't think there has been a Marcus Haber thread since: http://www.thevoyageurs.org/forums/topic/25622-marcus-haber-transfer-listed/

Latest news is that he was released by Crewe Alexandra and is about to sign with Yeovil Town in League 2.

http://www.somersetlive.co.uk/ex-west-bromwich-albion-striker-marcus-haber-linked-with-yeovil-town-move-on-a-one-year-deal/story-29421558-detail/story.html

Was recently interviewed by Mitch Tierney of Red Nation Online right before the 2 friendlies in Austria and said he would probably stay in the UK. http://www.wakingthered.com/2016/5/31/11825862/marcus-haber-and-canada-ready-for-final-stepping-stone-ahead-of-september-qualifiers

How Canada call-ups may have hurt his club career (from the Stoke Sentinel) :

The call-ups for national side Canada, which saw him miss around 12 weeks of football during the past two seasons, also didn't help his cause, although no fault of his own..released at the end of his contract ...The big factor with Marcus in the end was the Canada thing. http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/crewe-alexandra-steve-davis-admits-marcus-haber/story-29268793-detail/story.html

His trial has ended.

"Meanwhile, United have told former St Johnstone striker Marcus Haber, who had been on trial, that he can leave the club."http://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/football/dundee-united/261904/dundee-united-manager-ray-mckinnon-hails-hat-trick-hero-cammy-smith/

(no need to start a new thread for this @PJSweet ) ;)

Damn, couldn't catch on with a Scottish Championship club? On to the next one, I guess.

There is always a lot more to it than that like how the salary demands of Haber would fit into the team budget of a Scottish Championship team plus what are the current needs of team and what their playing style is. I am pretty sure Haber has the level of play necessary for the Scottish Championship.

Agree. More than just his play to be factored in here.

Seems more like style than salary here:

That front player will not be Canadian striker Marcus Haber.
His trial proved short-lived and Ray has confirmed the former St Johnstone man has headed back south.

Interesting that he hasn't been able to find a club after the best run of form in his career.

Honestly, I didn't watch any Crewe games this year obviously, but Haber seems to be so intensely disliked by that fan-base I'm not so sure how good his form was. I know he scored some goals though

Despite hope on this page that it was contact demands or some other thing at play, I always doubted that. Dundee United wouldn't have brought the guy in workout first talking to his agent and knowing what to expect in terms of salary. It may have been something other than talent -  style, work ethic, player chemistry, etc. M Huber is certainly good enough for Scottish Championship football, and even perhaps the Premiership.

I think the problem is that the best form of his career isn't really all that good.

He's not that good. It's as simple as that. He could barely find the back of the net in Scotland and has been at best a serviceable player in League One. At the end of the day Haber is representative of the kind of player we hope Canada can get away from eventually. Making the world cup isn't any easier when you rely on players playing in third divisions (And aren't even doing exceedingly well).

Don't think there is much of a fit for Haber in Edmonton. They have some decent depth up front with Ameobi, Keegan and Fordyce. Ameobi's game would most likely resemble Haber's. That plus I don't know if Miller wants another large forward who's best asset is his hold up play after the disaster that was Frank Jonke.
