Oh God I hope so!!! Ferreira and Tomori is what we need to take us to the top of CONCACF. Even if Ferreira is injury prone

If both were fully committed, I would love us to take them in, but I really have my doubts about Ferreira. He's not exactly young anymore at 26, going on 27. He's not playing regularly for Braga.

Once upon a time I thought he could be the cornerstone of our backline, but he's more likely to be a Vitoria at this point.

Again, I wouldn't turn him away, depth is good, but I no longer consider him a game changer.

Tomori? Maybe he forces his way into the line up ahead of Henry, but Ferreira may be a pherephrial player, strange as that sounds...

I'm not sure Fereira will ever be the player he was with all of his recent injuries but at this point we could use him.

Tomori will not be a part of England's squad probably for years or even at all.  Unless his growth skyrockets in the coming years, there are just too many quality young center backs in England right now.  He is currently playing with the England U21s this international break.  Started the friendly a few days ago as well.  He's done very well this year for Derby in the Championship and appears to be a potential starting center back this summer for England u21s.  This tournament could lead to a contract with a new team (assuming Chelsea let him leave).

Come July, I am hoping for a quick switch over the Canada but he may wish to sit on the fence for some time.

No Tomori on England squad for the Euro Qualifiers...

He's unlikely to be called for the Euro at this rate

Looks like he's getting closer to Canada

I figured you were talking about the Senior National Team, well Duh he's a starting CB in the Championship; not even in the radar by being in the Premier League yet

Don't get you hopes up just yet, he's not getting closer to Canada! Let's not speculate here

He was named to their friendlies vs Poland and Germany ahead of U21 Euros in June

Thus is the second last camp for them before the official tournament

Once that and the Gold Cup is finished this summer, then its decision time, since there is no Team Great Britain at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo even if they were to qualify

At 26 hes got a lot of years ahead of him for a CB as long as his knee heals up ok. Maybe a move to MLS or a lower league but still good enough for the national team would benefit him when hes on his comeback.

I personally don't see him coming back. His situation reminds me of Stu Holden who rehabbed for so long then came back and in hist first game re-tore his knee. I think Ferreira is done.

Yeah he is still likely a focal point of the England 21 defence for tmrws game and the summer.

He is also still unlikely to break through for England barring coming back after the derby loan to start for Chelsea. There are almost 8 or 9 ahead of him. Come September we have a great chance of getting him imo. Fingers crossed. We wont know at least until then imo.

Yeah he's a really big underdog to make it into the England senior squad going forward.  There are a lot of really good English players being developed right now as well as a bunch of players in their mid-early twenties already far ahead of him.  Barring a huge jump in development its hard to see, hopefully he comes into the fold for us.

I'll hype him a bit more and say he has a decent chance of making the England squad someday. He put in a MOTM performance in his last match with the u21s and derby fans seems to like him a lot, as in "best young defender in Europe" a lot.

He may not displace John Stones or Joe Gomez but it's easy to be in the conversation with the James Tarkowski, Michael Keane and the Lewis Dunk's of the player pool. Their CB pool isn't that great actually.

Next season will be important for his development. He's needs to make the jump and it'll be interesting what Chelsea does because of their transfer ban.

Maguire and Keane is Southgates first choice pairing. Then you have Stones Gomez Jones (when healthy) Tarkowski Dunk Lacelles Holding Chambers plus Dier who can play CB. Tomori will need to leave Chelsea or break into the squad for him to be in consideration

Joe gomez is the best English cb when healthy.

As we all know, alot can change in a year within football.

Lets be honest. He's not going to play at Chelsea, regardless of their impending transfer ban. They currently have Rudiger, Azipicueleta, Christensen...then vets in Luiz, Cahill... Then the loan Rangers in Kurt Zouma, Jake Clarke-Salter, Michael Hector, Matt Miazga,... List goes on.

He'll need a transfer to some PL team and play to get considered for the ENT. Just look at someone like Jack Grealish.

No he’s not Maguire and keane are considerably better than him.

All due respect to the badge you display on your profile, but there's not a single thing in football that Joe Gomez doesn't do better than Maguire, other than stay healthy, of course. If Man Utd offer anything like the fees that were mooted for Maguire last summer for him this summer, Leicester would be stupid not to take it.

I think Gomez is better on the ball than maguire but he is in no way a better defender than him.

That's LITERALLY all we do here.

There is a lot of speculation, but just for a change of pace, here are his England U-21 results since I last posted about them:

September 2018:
Not in the squad for a nil-nil draw vs the Netherlands
http://www.uefa.com/under21/season=2019/matches/round=2000803/match=2022368/index.html

Played a full game for a 2-1 vs Latvia
http://www.uefa.com/under21/season=2019/matches/round=2000803/match=2022381/index.html

October 2018:
No in the squad for the 7-0 win against Andorra
http://www.uefa.com/under21/season=2019/matches/round=2000803/match=2022358/index.html

Played a full game for the 2-0 win against Scotland
http://www.uefa.com/under21/season=2019/matches/round=2000803/match=2022380/index.html

November 2018:
Played a full game as England beat Italy 2-1
http://www.thefa.com/news/2018/nov/15/england-u21s-italy-report-151118

Came on in the 71st minute as England beat Denmark 5-1
http://www.thefa.com/news/2018/nov/20/england-u21s-denmark-report-201118

March 2019:
Played a full game in a 1-1 draw against Poland
http://www.thefa.com/news/2019/mar/21/england-u21s-poland-report-210319

and finally earlier today, did not play in a 1-2 deafeat to Germany
http://www.thefa.com/news/2019/mar/26/england-u21s-germany-report-260319

For more perspective,

It looks like whatever the U21 results this summer, there will not be a "Team GB" at Tokyo 2020. Only on the women's side:
http://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/47532721

If he wants to go to the Olympics, it's Nigeria or us.

Nigeria will likely qualify during the
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Africa_U-23_Cup_of_Nations
in November.
They just beat Libya at home after losing the first leg. Next up is Sudan in June.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Africa_U-23_Cup_of_Nations_qualification

Our qualification will be in October.

Let us see what Tomori does on July 1st (Canada Day!) the day after the final game of the UEFA U-21 EUROS.

Gomez and van dyke starting together gave up like one goal this year. I'd start Gomez and stones, there's a reason they play on the best two teams.

Stones starts when he's healthy and Gomez is the best talent in their CB pool, he does everything really well.  Maguire is good, and he might start over Gomez for a little while but Gomez has a chance at being really, really good.  Gomez has everything for a modern CB.

In terms of Tomori, if he wanted to break into Enlgland he needs to leave Chelsea, Zouma is ahead of him and has been out on loan for a few years, Christensen is barely getting games as well.  Even then he's a big underdog to do it and if he does he's very likely to be a part time call up.

  • 4 weeks later...

I watched him at home today vs QPR, a very tidy match, he passed the ball really well out of the back and defended well when he had to, he's just what we need to pair with Henry, I imagine he's holding out hope for England but I don't see that given their depth!

The 23-man squads for the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_UEFA_European_Under-21_Championship

are due on June 6th. He will likely be included.

I assume England will bring a younger group to Toulon.
