Free kick
If i were to guess where merchandising sales are in relation to other pro teams based on my un-scientific eye test, those rating number bare no resemblance and correlation. You do see quite bit of bit of peraphenelia worn around town for TFC. This is one more reason why those numbers for MLS have always puzzled me especially when compared to other pro teams locally. Whitecaps averaging 86,000 viewers this season, up from 69,000 last season. In the 18-34 demographic, TFC up 39%, Montreal up 22%, Vancouver up 12%. All these numbers from TSN. Last year MLS playoffs must have been a huge reason for this increase
harrycoyster
2017 MLS Finals had 1.3 million viewers in Canada. Down 200k from last year but still a great number. The US official numbers aren't in yet, but extrapolating Nielsen ratings puts US viewership at 2.1 million on ESPN and 600k on Unimas.
masster
I think this is the sentence in the release that will please the television executives the most. The 2017 season also saw double-digit growth in the key A18-34 (+40%) and A25-54 (+28%) demos over 2016. http://www.bellmedia.ca/pr/press/1-3-million-canadians-watch-historic-toronto-fc-mls-cup-win-on-tsn/

The 1.3 million is just the average over the two hours, the full press release indicates 3.4 million actually tuned in at some point and 2 million were watching at the end when Vazquez scored. jpg75
I'll say it again, if Canada ever made it to the World Cup the viewership would be on par with Olympic Hockey. It would probably bring this country together and achieve a critical mass to push the MNT program to another level.
gigi riva
I honestly think last years playoff series between Impact v TFC changed the perception of Soccer here in Canada for the better. I am sure the MLS head office in New York has taken notice.
