Unlike Friday, he did make the lineup for the Estonian senior squad today. They lost 0-2 to Greece. He remained on the bench so he's still not cap-tied.

Vaikla is in the 25-man squad for Estonia's WCQ against Belgium on November 13th. http://www.jalgpall.ee/news.php?st=style_fp.css&news_id=11258

Vaikla lived through his own "8-1" as Belgium spanked Estonia by that scoreline. He stayed on the bench. Still not cap-tied. Next possible moment would be March 25th. By that point we will know if our U-20s have made the World Cup. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/round=276483/match=300332070/index.html

Should call Vaikla for this camp. Need to see if he is interested.

Ironic @Stryker911 that you should post that (in the Camp Poutine 2017 thread) a day after Vaikla gets his 2nd senior cap for Estonia.

The Estonian NT went on a two game friendly tour of the Caribbean this month. They played St Kitts & Nevis on Saturday the 19th and Antigua & Barbuda on Tuesday the 22nd.

Vaikla was in net for the St Kitts game (Marko Meerits was in net for his 5th cap for the Antigua game).

Because he is still eligible for us. Also I get why someone would be enticed to go and play for England, Netherlands, or even Bosnia, but Estonia has never qualified for the World Cup or a Euro. So maybe he will change his mind if we keep pursuing him. Until he is cap-tied and officially can't play for us then he should be called to every camp we have.

Image result for never give up

Estonia has never qualified, but they made the playoff round in Euro 2012 qualifying. With the Euros having now expanded and with the World Cup likely to grow as well, you can't say it is impossible.

Just as you can't say its impossible that he wouldn't switch ;)

For what its worth I think this guy is gone

He recently transferred from IFK Norkopping in Sweden to IFK Mariehamn in Finland. Mariehamn won the Finnish title last year although it was their first title and usually they are around 4th or 5th place and not one of the big teams in Finland. Norkopping was 3rd last year and are one of the bigger Swedish teams. The Swedish league is significantly better than the Finnish one so this seems to be a step down for him. On the other hand he has been given the Number 1 jersey and based on pre-season Cup games seems to be the expected starting keeper for Mariehamn. At 20 it is still a decent level to be at to be a starting keeper on a good Finnish team but also not necessarily a sign he will end up at a top league in the end. Always bad to lose players like this because we never know how high they will go but on the other hand he has stepped down a level and may not progress much past this level either.

At club level:

-As expected, Mariehamn are not doing as well this year. They can still get a Europa League spot with three games left to play.
-Despite having something to play for, Vaikla has been on the bench for the last three games.

At international level since our last update in March:

He played for Estonia U21 (u23):

In June for one game and was on the bench for the other:

In September for one game and was on the bench for the other:

In October he was left on the bench for their one and only game:

Reminder: he's still not cap-tied to Estonia and can't be until September 2018.

Why would he want to represent Canada? He left to England for youth football to play for West Brom Albion at the age of 15 and has been in Sweden/Finland ever since he turned 20

He feels he has a better shot at making Estonia National team, let him have it

Because he's Canadian?

He's gone! Estonia are playing 4/5 friendlies for the month of November and you have to think he will play in them

Yes, he hasn't been captied officially but he's very much a part of the senior national team

Just look at the other goalkeepers they have, he's not far off from being the No 1 GK 2-3 years down the road

Just hasn’t got a call from the CMNT. He previously mentioned he would play for Canada.

No, he was called by Canada at youth level for sure (after he was already in the Estonia youth setup), I'm not sure he was called by the senior team though(Floro, OZ etc) .

Signed with Kristiansund BK for two seasons

Played 90 minutes for the u21 national team on Nov 14 in a 3-2 loss against Iceland in the latest qualifier of the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. They are last with 1 point.

The Estonia national team had 5 friendlies in November and he played 90 minutes in the last one, a 1-1 draw against New Caledonia. Didn't get called for the friendly against Sweden on Jan 7.

The Estonia U21(under 23) squad had a qualifier against Spain. Vaikla wasn't there as he was called to the Estonia senior squad as 3rd choice keeper for friendlies vs Armenia and Georgia. It seems like he was the odd man out as the two other keepers played a game each and he didn't play.

http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1268613/Live/International-Int-Friendly-2018-Armenia-Estonia

http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1268457/Live/International-Int-Friendly-2018-Georgia-Estonia

Estonia U21 still have 3 games left in Sept/Oct although they have been eliminated, bottom of their group, and have nothing to play for:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_UEFA_European_Under-21_Championship_qualification_Group_2

Obviously still not cap tied to Estonia!

Estonia played two friendlies earlier this month against Lithuania and Latvia:

http://int.soccerway.com/matches/2018/05/30/europe/baltic-cup/estonia/lithuania/2750756/
http://int.soccerway.com/matches/2018/06/02/europe/baltic-cup/latvia/estonia/2750757/

Vaikla was on the bench for both.

It looks like he will not be part of the squad that will face Morocco in a friendly in a couple days:

Obviously still not cap-tied to Estonia.
