Ricardo Ferreira

Recommended Posts

Ferreira finished off his season with Braga by playing in the first 77 minutes of 2-2 draw (4-2 penalty win) over Porto to claim the Taça de Portugal (FA Cup of Portugal).

There have been rumours of Benfica interest in the last week but he has answered the media by saying he is " red and white" (the colours of Braga). Some irony there!

Those are also the colours of Benfica.

I have nothing new to report about Ferreira. He is obviously pleased that Portugal won. Congratulated his Braga teammate Rafa Silva who was with the squad.

I wonder what will happen to the 4 "old" centre-backs that were on the 23-man squad. Aged 38, 34, 33 & 32.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Fonte

They have a key WCQ in September against Switzerland (likely the 2nd best team in that group). Will the coach stick with the same team?

Carvalho I believe played the first match but is over his head, obviously (is there another with that name, maybe I am mixing them up?). Pepe is playing very well, has taken a long time to mature, was playing off a recent injury as well, he clearly has a couple more good years in him.

Carvalho is done. No question. Bruno Alves just transferred to Cagliari in Serie A. Better league but worse team. I wouldn't consider that a step up. And his one performance in this tournament was not impressive. If I am the manager, I am looking to replace him too. Pepe and Fonte will still be around unless they were to choose international retirement, which I would not expect.

Ferreira will be out for 10 to 12 weeks due to an injury to a ligament in his right knee. It was during a pre-season game vs Wigan.

This obviously rules him out of a possible Portugal call for their game on September 6th vs Switzerland.

Still injured. Not in Braga's lineup right now for Europa League game vs Shakhtar.

Obviously wasn't called to Portugal's squad for October games (just like for September).

I'll bump his thread again when he has recovered.

Portugal squad for this month (obviously Ferreira not called - Bruno Alves, José Fonte & Luís Neto are the centre-backs): http://www.fpf.pt/pt/Notícias/Notícia/news/8870

________________________________

Ferreira is playing again. The estimates of 10-12 weeks were way off. He'd been out about 17 weeks I'd guess. He required surgery.

SC Braga played Spanish club Celta Vigo in a friendly  on Wednesday (both teams are only about 120km away from each other) and Ferreira got some playing time.

Media seem to think the club want him to be match fit to face C.D. Santa Clara in the Taça de Portugal on November 20th. (Is #CANMNT player Pedro Pacheco still captain there?)

On a sidenote, how bad does Canada's CB situation look without this guy? Edgar and Vitoria are not getting any younger, Straith and Jakovic are pretty bleh, Henry is made of rice krispies. James is the only one who actually looks to be on the up. Roberts, Ouimette (more of an fb for Canada) are NASL level players and Lefevre isn't a starter for Montreal.

Well no one is ever getting any younger ... my 3-year old is not getting any younger.  My hopes for CB are on Vitoria (who is in a pretty respectable club situation) and Gasparotto.  With Edgar, James, and Henry (if ever healthy) as other options.  We had issues vs. Honduras because of match fitness, but I still think RB is a bigger hole (actually, chasm is more appropriate).

Yes Pacheco is still Santa Clara's captain and a regular starter, he surpassed 250 league appearances for the club not too long ago.

On a side note, Santa Clara are currently one spot out of promotion to the Primeira Liga at the moment.

Cometh the hour Cometh the Jackson Farmer.... ok I'll get my coat.

Gassparoto and lefevre in the mid term if the latter continues to get game time and continues to learn and the former continues his upward trajectory. Henry will be there and there abouts.

Should have a good couple more years of vitoria/Edgar etc too.

Ferreira has made a thunderous return to Braga!

After not having played a competitive game in almost 7 months (Taça de Portugal win) he played in their last two:

A full game on Sunday Dec 18th vs Sporting CP. A 1-0 away win that brought Braga up to 3rd place in the table:

A full game on Thursday Dec 22nd. A 2-1 win against Moreirense where he scored a goal:

He's next....

If hes still in Italy, maybe he'll make the short trip to Braga and watch the game in Tondela.

You would think that since he travelled to watch/talk to Crisante he would definitely talk to someone who has stronger ties to Canada.

Would be a massive pick up. Still a good age and we really need quality in the back. Iffy about his lack of game action but we really are lacking centre back options. I'll wait for official confirmation he met with him before I get my hopes up.

Lack of game action has been due to some injuries...other than that I assume he would've been a mainstay in the backline considering the past 6 games he's played full 90s.

As @Jahinho Guerro said, that's not the problem. He has just been plagued by injury this season but is ending it on a strong note. Take a look.

Ricardo Ferreira 2016-2017 season so far:

Starts on Dec 18th after that massive injury that kept him out since the summer and required surgery.

hmmm, very interesting especially the radio-Canada story. He says that Canada hasn't accomplished much in the last few years and that players want to know that things will change before they commit to Canada.

« Mais soyons francs, nous n’avons pas accompli beaucoup de choses depuis quelques années. Et, avant de s’engager, un joueur veut savoir que les choses vont changer. »

sounds like those 3 players want Canada to do a lot better before being convinced for a change. So for example the farther we get in the GC the more likely this could help us rally new players.
