alright, more ideas.  came back to an old idea that I wasn't satisfied with.  Curious if anyone here is from south edmonton(aka old strathcona - aka anything south of the river) that might be able to comment.

My fiance is from Scona but she's just giving me sass as opposed to good feedback.

I might be a little off with my history, but the way I understand it, Edmonton and Strathcona actually used to be two separate townships before they merged in 1912.

It's probably not overly realistic to expect another team in the city, while FC edmonton is still struggling to get off the ground.  But, that being said, I think if they were done right this city could support two teams in the future.  There are a ton of soccer fans here, just waiting to be offered an authentic, quality product.  Sure, they're eurosnobs, but i'll bring em around eventually.

Anyways.  With the oilers being the team that everyone seems to love here, I thought it would be fitting(not to mention edmonton's history of electing socialist - orange clad - parties).  Now with FC Edmonton's main colour being blue, I figured any potential rival would be orange.  Also, the old strathcona train station, as well as a multitude of buildings on the south side(quite a few university buildings, much of the retail space on whyte avenue, ... I could go on) are built with orange red brick(hence the grid pattern on the crest).

Someone recently introduced me to the phrase "Champagne Socialist" and this is sort of the feeling I'm going for, if that makes any sense.  This is part of the reasoning behind the "Nine Lives" slogan.  All of the champagne socialists I know spent a considerable amount of their life being poor.  They tried out many different lives along the way(think of your hipster friends, you know, the ones that are kind of fuck ups, but clearly intelligent and always seem to land on their feet ;) )  I know this is kinda all over the place but I really think there is something here.  The tree is intended to be Balsam Poplar, which are common in the many parks on the south side, and have notoriously difficult to deal with roots that have a tendency to interfere with any sort of construction plans if you allow them to take root(kinda aiming for another socialism metaphor, if you're seeing the trend here)

oh, and the font is taken from the sign that hangs over gateway trail as you enter old strathcona district.

Anyways, feedback appreciated as always.

Also, just like to point out, the orange is supposed to be red-orange(your monitor may beg to differ), as IMO the alberta NDP is the most "centrist" version of the NDP.

hehe lots of symbolism :P

Another rough draft.  Wasn't a lot of resources to take from for Vaughn(that I could find) so went with what I found

Seal of the city of vaughn(although most actually have dark blue as opposed to light blue)

quite a few references to industry, with the hammer and anvil, crops, and a loom, as well as the beaver.  I thought it would make sense to choose to the beaver as a natural symbol for this city(finally).

I think I could make the beaver look a little better, but curious what people thought so far about the general idea.

May need a little help with this idea.  Trying to combine Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody into one team - something along the lines of Triport Coquitlam or something.  I think i've started to successfully combine the three coat of arms, but I'm not quite sure how to proceed next.

Perhaps someone who has spent time in the area could advise me.

here's what I've got so far.  Pretty basic.

Man the West and East regions have so much "Identity" to work with, I love it!   I feel like in Ontario we dont have anything unique.

it really depends.  Some communities have great coat of arms, flag, etc and some have almost nothing.

Still probably going to revisit some, but u just gotta get creative.  Imagine the city in a way thats maybe a little flattering but also go back and think about the days of the settlers and what they would have thought.  Or I suppose the original inhabitants... but that starts to get a little taboo.

also, for me personally, I have spent very little time out east vs out west so my perception is kinda skewed.

basically the farther south and west from whitehorse you go, the less I know.
