Other suggestions if you ever get around to it:   St. Catherines/Niagrafalls/Vineland, Brampton/Peel, Durham/Oshawa, Sherbrooke, & St. John's.

The Okanagan crest got me thinking about smaller/regional groupings for potential expansion. Around year 5 of the CPL or so... We can dream right?

Also, may I suggest no more lions please, one on each coastal city is enough.

If you're going to do Peel, it's going to be Mississauga not Brampton, hopefully someone can bank role Sigma.

But, I don't see teams in smaller regions showing up in the CPL for the next 20 years, if ever, that means no Sherbrooke, no Oshawa etc... It wouldn't be part of the business plan as ROI would be too low for these areas.

Well he was asking for suggestions because he's done all the major cities. Okanagan isn't going to get a team either... Just looking for more logo pr0n at this point.

In regards to Peel region; both Brampton and Mississauga have killed pretty much every minor sports team that has ever set up shop in them. Both suburban cities suffer from low density and vast sprawl. If you were to place a team there you'd want it to be located in a core area and have an identify that resonates with the city. I think Brampton, having slightly better success with sports teams would be a better first location for a team in Peel. Mississauga would follow suit, but having lived there in the past I find it hard to imagine any sort of buzz about a sports team from Mississauga unless it was joining an established successful product. Kind of like a late-to-the-show prima donna syndrome.

As you mentioned, Sigma would be the obvious choice for Mississauga and already has a logo. So asking for that would be moot.

Fair enough.

From an urban planning stand point, Brickyard Park near Fr. Daniel Zanon C.S. would be a great spot for a 10,000 seater stadium, it's relatively close to the city centre/Square One, and Cooksville, as well as the upcoming Hurontario LRT which is expected to further urbanize the area. When I played there a couple of years ago with my OSL team quite a few randoms came to watch. I think you start there, appeal to the community as well as some hardcore fans, and Mississauga would be a great place to have a team. The Hershey Centre is in the middle of a pretty soul sucking area, it's easy to see why sports teams have done poorly there.

I think all teams in the league should play out of a stadium a bit larger than this. This Man City's academy stadium, it's capacity is 7000, CPL teams should have capacity's of 10,000-15,000.Academy%20Stadium%203.ashx?h=450&w=800

Also, Sigma could do with a bit of a refresh to their look, their name could even be Sigma Mississauga FC.

Dare to dream!  But yea I know enough with the lions, I figured someone would call it out seeing as they were back to back as well.

I'll definitely get around to those when I get a chance.  If chattanooga FC can draw 18000 against cosmos B, why not any of those.  I think regions is kinda the way to go at least for some areas of the country.

Also, what's sigma from?

totally agree.  You want it to be more than 5000, so it doesn't look mickey mouse, but it's almost as bad having a stadium that's too big.  Always keep a line, yknow.

Sigma FC is the academy that developed Larin, Laryea and Welshmen. They are a well funded private academy that also participates in L1O. They have also been linked to the CPL viz. Duane Rollins. Although without their own stadium its unclear what their role would be, some have speculated something to do with Toronto, others in Mississauga on their own, some have also talked about them building a relationship with the Hamilton team in some capacity.

Sigma currently plays at a field next to the Hersey centre in Mississauga. I think they share the field with North Mississauga as well. Zen brings up good points about the future LRT, but a stadium isn't in the works as of right now in Peel at all.

Sigma is a Greek letter. I think it's used in some statistical math thing called chi squared. I can't remember my high school math these days, been too long.

Sorry, I suppose I should have clarified - from a symbolic perspective, what is "sigma" and it's significance to Mississauga?  or is that just randomly the name of the club?

Been looking to do Mississauga for a while, and I didn't really have any great ideas tbh

There's no specific connection with Sigma and Mississauga itself. I do understand where you're coming from though, from a marketing perspective it's good to provide a connection to the supporter base. My only counterpoint would be that there are other teams that are named without specific reference to the city, like Red Star Belgrade or Sigma Olomouc FC.

I guess it's up to you whether you want to continue with an established name in the soccer scene here in Ontario, or if you want to try something new.

Also, I've always imagined the other 6 community clubs in Mississauga, forming a minority partnership in this club which would be owned and operated by Sigma, and bankrolled by a big organization here that holds the controlling stake. I think that would be ideal in bringing together the clubs in Mississauga for the benefit of all the players.

As for if you go with a completely new brand, use the Absolute towers, the City Hall, the Port Credit light House, Kariya Park... For additional inspiration, Mississauga is a city built from an amalgamation of villages: Clarkson, Cooksville, Dixie, Erindale, Malton, Meadowvale Village, Port Credit and Streetsville.

Honestly not really.  I mean I think symbolism is important personally, but there's nothing necessarily wrong with something like Red Star.  I mean it brings up imagery of socialist authoritarian regimes, which, although controversial, is undeniably a little badass.

I have heard Mississauga is supposed to be sort of business oriented, lots of fortune five hundred companies there.  so maybe this could be combined with the sigma thing.  I think they have a gear in the city flag that I thought would be cool.  Maybe a gear with the sigma signal on it or something?

Idk

Interesting idea. Here's the flag:

Interesting, I'd say go crazier though haha, I think it's a little conservative. Try the wings from the flag if you can. I would definitely suggest Mississauga blue though.

Those seem so random though.  I can't imagine someone buying and walking around with that on a jersey.  Most of the other ones that have been developed have a very commercial feel to them.

i think with Mississauga part of the problem is the city doesn't have an identity besides the mall and Marilyn Monroe towers.

Any Ideas for Moncton by the way?

Also, update for mississauga - not the exact wings from the flag, but tried to stay close.

and fixed the blue and gold

moving in the right direction?

What do you think about the wings being integrated into the top of the shield? Think that might look good?

Can't argue with that. Mississauga is a relatively new city, it will take time to build its identity.

yea that was my next thought.  I'll have to move the Sigma and M but that's not the end of the world.

I mean yea, true enough.  So maybe this will be a bit harder for Sauga, but at least if you look at the wikipedia page, it emphasizes Mississauga being home to quite a few fortune five hundred companies Canadian Headquarters.  This is sort of why I like the gear - the idea of being a cog in a big corporate machine, although probably not appealing to most of us, if you're from sauga and that's what your city is known for, perhaps you can gain pride from that idea.  Especially if you happen to work for an ethical company, which seems to be all the rage these days anyways.

I know it feels a little thrown together now, but these always seem to take a little while to develop, so work with me here :P

Edit: not to mention, the monroe towers are futuristic as F, and that's part of the reason I wanna go with a semi-futuristic vibe if I can.

The Monroe towers are almost something to build the Mississauga identity around.

Its either that or some kind of sports animal to be honest.  I don't have a problem with sports animal type logos either.  Mississauga Moose anyone?

Perhaps I'm a purist, but I'd prefer it to just be Mississauga FC and then have a moose in it.  I dunno... I just can't let go of the gear lol.  The cogs!  Content in their corporate machine!  lol FFS I need to stop flipping between day and night shifts, i think it's making me a little loopy.

but yea i guess moose... but is it uniquely mississauga?  We have moose up in YT too
