How was Davies allowed to sign a professional contract in Canada if he's not a citizen and is under the age of 18?

His family moved for non-footballing reasons right?

If not, he is at least a permanent resident and there was maybe some exception because his family moved to Canada for non-footballing reasons?

Apparently this is the case:

2 a) The player's parents move to the country in which the new club is located for reasons not linked to football;

Question, where did you read he isn't a citizen? He's suited up for Canadian youth teams in the past.

This is how Messi moved to Barca

When Messi moved to Barca there were no stipulations on the movement of minors.

If you missed it don't worry. That one will be on the highlight reel over and over.

I missed it, and I don't see it on the highlight reel from Vancouver's website or CONCACAF's. Does anyone have a clip of this Davies run?

You see the end of it where he executes the 1-2 give and go to perfection and makes the pass across to Hurtado for the first goal. The build up was equally impressive and he had several great runs. I wish they had posted more footage from the game.

He played great .. wow. Not sure what league would be great for his development next

Depending on how he develops after 2 more seasons in MLS he may just bypass the development phase of his move to Europe and go straight to the EPL. Of course anything can happen and he could be the next Wyn Belotte (that's right kids, you too can be the next Wyn Belotte!)...

Ixnay on the Freddy Adu and double ixnay on the Wyn Belotte!! That and I hope the Caps keep him until he is at least 22 for completely selfish reasons (I love to watch him play). He has filled the gap in my psyche that was created by Gersh leaving.

He was very good playing a full 90 minutes in an MLS game. First time I have seen his top end speed and it is very fast. He looks very comfortable playing in the middle of the field so I can see him developing into a central attacking mid.

Also beginning to think he has to be in consideration for the 2017 Gold Cup roster. If he continues starting at the MLS level into next season, why not include him?

He could have beef with the new interim

Check out this quote from the province:

"Given Davies’ passport status — he doesn’t even have his Canadian one yet — and Canada’s woeful FIFA ranking, U.K. clubs will be eying him for a move at 18."

That's not good news for our u20 team...

Pretty sure Weber is wrong about the possibility of a sale and loan agreement before the age of 18. A sale to another club (like ManU) constitutes a transfer of the players rights, which is in violation of article 19.

Davies started and looked very good in the first half. Drew the penalty with some nifty footwork leading to Vancouver's goal. Very active first half and had some good runs leading to opportunities.

super talented 15 year old that needs to be captied ASAP. Hasn't looked out of place at all in his 1st team appearances.

Davies has been in Canada 10+ years... how does he not have citizenship?

I really don't know what the rules are.

would Davies be subject to the 5 year rule? I.e. He would need to be in Canada for 5 years after he turns 18 before he could play for our National Team? If so, that would be a disaster

Alphonso Davies is a permanent resident of Canada and according to CIC, in order to apply for Canadian citizenship applicants must hold permanent resident status and have lived in Canada for a minimum of 4 years out of the past 6 years. Davies has been in Canada for 10 years, but I am not sure how long he's been a permanent resident. If Alphonso is interested in playing for Canada, hopefully the folks at the CSA are working with him and his family to do whatever is necessary in order to make him eligible.
