shermanator
TFC announced today that Joe Bendik, Chris Konopka, Jackson, and Manny Aparicio did not have their options exercised. They can still re-sign. Disappointed on Aparicio being dropped but not overly surprised, couldn't see him cracking the first team. Guess we'll see if he signs a TFC II deal. Gian-Luca
Surprised about Jackson, as his versatility was often fairly useful. They picked up the option for Mark Bloom instead, who I'm not sure I see as an improvement. Also worth mentioning - Findley's contract will expire at the end of the season and it doesn't sound like they are re-signing him (or if they do, you have to hope that it would be at a massive pay cut). Justin Morrow was announced as having re-signed yesterday. On a Canadian front, they did pick up the contract options for Osorio, Morgan, Roberts, Chapman, Manella and Hamilton. Roberts & Bono are the only keepers on the roster right now. The TFC Roster as it currently stands: Goalkeepers (2): Alex Bono, Quillan Roberts Defenders (9): Mark Bloom, Nick Hagglund, Ahmed Kantari, Ashtone Morgan, Justin Morrow, Damien Perquis, Clement Simonin, Josh Williams, Eriq Zavaleta Midfielders (8): Michael Bradley, Jay Chapman, Benoit Cheyrou, Marky Delgado, Daniel Lovitz, Chris Mannella, Jonathan Osorio, Collen Warner Forwards (5): Jozy Altidore, Sebastian Giovinco, Herculez Gomez, Jordan Hamilton, Luke Moore
MM2
With only 4 roster spots open this doesn't leave much room for improvement, at least one will have ot be used on a keeper. I thought that at minimum 2 of the defenders would be gone, especially given that defence and the keeper position are in the most need of updrades. shermanator
I assume TFC would sign at least 1 keeper this offseason. Wonder if Roberts will actually get a shot at the backup role?

If not bought out. Might be some renegotiating contracts to a lower cap hit.

shermanator
I was really hoping the press conference would be to announce MLS considering Canadian players to be domestic league wide. Guess that will continue to be a pipe dream....

jpg75
TFC acquire RB Steven Beitashour from Vancouver for a draft pick. http://www.tsn.ca/tfc-acquires-d-beitashour-from-whitecaps-1.407416
shermanator
That's a hell of a pickup for Toronto, they've been lacking at RB for as long as I can remember (Eckersley was serviceable, Bloom was serviceable, Jackson and Creavalle were dumpster fires). Wonder if both Adekugbe and Harvey will get starting roles at FB next year? Or can Jordan Smith play RB?
youllneverwalkalone
Beita is a great guy. You definitely want him around to organize your fantasy football. Not sure he's more than an average fullback by MLS standards. Gives the ball away in dangerous areas and doesn't get down the flank like he used to with San Jose. Jordan Smith is a right back. From what I've seen he's definitely "above average" as a MLS fullback... which isn't saying much. If you look around the league FB is definitely the weakest position league wide. Grizzly
Beitashour is a good acquisition for Toronto but TFC always seems to get itself into salary cap problems so we need to see the ramifications of this, ie. if they are putting this much money into their FBs is this going to cause a hole elsewhere due to lack of salary cap room for other positions. jpg75
Jackson was making a lot of money so his departure freed up some cash, likely enough to pay for Beitashour. According to the MLSPA numbers Jackson made 165K base and Beitashour made 190K.
jpg75
Ugh. Good god, look at the salaries for the backup forwards for TFC: https://www.mlsplayers.org/images/September%2015%202015%20Salary%20Information%20-%20By%20Club.pdf Findlay we already knew at 225K, but Moore at 215K and Herc Gomez at 240K!!! What a giant waste of money. That's 680K on 3 guys who are easily replaceable. Kantari i thought deserved a second chance, but 300K is a lot of money. With the announced increase in Targetted Allocation funds for the next two years it's time to make the most of that money and get players that are more like Cheyrou and less like these guys. Obinna
He is an average or slightly above average MLS fullback. The best thing about this move is that he gets reunited with Morrow. I am not too worried about his salary, it is not outrageous. TFC have two starting quality fullbacks on either side and have two backups who are capable of holding their own as starters if required. Next is to sort out CB. I would like to see TFC keep Perquis, dump Haugland and probably Williams. I'd give Kantari another season, but I would look at bringing in Dejan Jakovic. He was a starter on DCU when he was in MLS, and he's only gotten better since playing in Japan. Now that his club has been relegated, he may be open to a return, especially to his hometown. Obinna
The proposed formation by Matt Doyle on MLS soccer could be an option: Beiteshour---Moor---Perquis---Morrow -----------------Cheyrou------------------- ---------Bradley--------Johnson--------- -----------------Osorio-------------------- -----------Altidore--Giovinco------------- TFC play narrow anyways, and in Beiteshour and Morrow they now have TWO fullbacks willing to overlap to compensate. They'd have two hard-nosed, quality midfielders in the centre (who are mates to boot). Cheyrou behind them collecting the ball as a deep lying playmaker. Osorio further up the pitch supporting Altidore and Giovinco. ............ Looks to be the best bet at least from an offensive standpoint.
Bully
Nice. It would be unreal to have Oso and Johnson starting every game and developing chemistry. Floroisms aside.
Dub Narcotic
They need to sign a solid goalkeeper now. A huge problem in the team's history apart from a few reasonable Frei years. Borjan?

Hey Will, break a leg Oh you already have? No need to do it twice. I think you will see TFC join the 4-5-1 variant that seems popular. It reality it will be more of a 4-1-3-2 with the DM switching between Will and Bradley. Take turns doing the box to box so you always have one back to help the CBs and fresh legs going forward. When behind you can push both up.
