Oh yeah I agree, Oblak has looked pretty amazing on the rare occasions I have seen him play. But it all lined up too well to not comment haha

I perfectly understand that if you are a team that has bombed in Champions, and win Europa League, it is hard to rate those players. Also because they really played a short tournament, while those others were in it, in some cases, since last summer.

So if this article isn't Fake news and google translate isn't having a laugh this says that Borjan was beaten up during the Red Star celebrations while trying to protect his friends and has since contemplated leaving the club . . .

That's awful! Apparently he has attracted interest from Swiss club Lugano. Would probably be a good move.

The article also says that the club has convinced him to stay.

Still totally nuts.

Interesting article courtesy of Canucks Abroad.

In short Red Star has brought in another keeper in case Borjan departs. It seems Borjan will play the Champions League qualifiers and then sit down with management and see where he goes or if he stays. He must have a number of suitors with a lot more money available than Red Star does. Nice that he has options and the ball is in his court.

Staying at Red Star would be great for consistency and Champions League opportunities, but if he's getting offers in countries with top leagues it could be the last opportunity of his career to play in the Premier League, Bundesliga, etc. As you said, it's a good problem to have at least.

Google translate is always good for a laugh but if the gist is coming across, he seems to be saying mostly the right things about staying at Red Star.

One bit:

Q. For a couple of days, it was speculation that by the end of August I would leave the Rajko Mitić stadium and continue your career on the island?

A . Of course I'm interested in the Premier League, but that's just media speculation. I would not talk about it, I'm the Red Star star and I'm scanty at the red-and-white games. I really do not know what it will be.

Borjan neither started nor was on the bench for the first game of the Serbian season yesterday. It could be he was just tired from the mid-week Champions League qualification (though one would expect he would at least be on the bench if this was the case) or possibly there is truth to the rumour that he is transferring to a club in a better league but would play the qualification games for Red Star.

Thanks for that. I see these updates and think he was transferred away from Red Star Belgrade. But so far too lazy and too big a backlog on this site to review the thread to see where the heck Zvezda is.

Not a great, though not terrible, result for Borjan and Red Star in the Europa League qualifiers.

1-1 at home, so go to Slovakia next week needing a goal in the second leg.

Red Star took the lead with a penalty but Grendel scored for the visitors right after, the monster, (sorry could not resist) ruining Borjan's clean sheet run.
