Dies anyone follow his Serbian League games? It seems like he is always trying to involve himself when he doesn't have much to do. But I assume that is normal for him as they generally crush teams. For example, when he crashed into Vitoria there was no reason for him to come out. I only watch when they play European competitions and he usually plays well there, but they are generally the underdog with no expectations.

It also seems like he makes alot of silly mistakes that lead to goals. I have no doubt he is talented, a passionate player which I like, and very committed. However, I would not be opposed to letting St. Clair be the starter.

Think we need to put the breaks on St. Clair. He had half a good MLS season. Definitely one to watch for the future, but don't think he passes Crepeau and Borjan today.

I don’t think Borjan would have ran in to Vitoria if Vitoria wasn’t pushed from behind. The push made it seem like a more awkward situation than it should have been. I’ve noticed a lot of pushes in the back from Central American players in the Olympic qualifying games as well and if I were a ref I would crack down on it because it could be dangerous.

In the four seasons he's been at Red Star they have won the league every year and I believe he's been named the club's top player twice. Given that they dominate most of the teams in the league and probably don't give up a lot of scoring chances to begin with I can only conclude that he must deliver a lot of strong performances to earn such accolades. I'm really not sure what to make of the brain farts he seems to have when playing for Canada.

Last night when watching it live I didn't see the push. Saw it on the replay. Reminded me of a similar play I was involved in (at a level 1000 times lower than last night's match). I was the defender that got pushed from behind right into my keeper. We took each other out and the pusher tapped in an easy goal. I was furious at the incompetence of the ref to not see what I thought was an obvious push in the back. Last night (15 years or so later) I got a lot less mad at that ref. It seems possible to miss that push if you don't have the right angle.

Zvezda have locked down the league title again

Well...almost.

Since joining Red Star Belgrade in the summer of 2017,

He won the 2017-18 Serbian SuperLiga:

He won the 2018-19 Serbian SuperLiga:

He won the (shortened) 2019-20 Serbian SuperLiga:

and is on track to win once again for the 4th time in a row:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020–21_Serbian_SuperLiga

There are 6 matchdays left and Red Star Belgrade are 12 points ahead of Partizan.

Red Star Belgrade are also undefeated in the league so far this year and I am sure would be proud of a season without a single loss if they can manage it.

----

However for Red Star Belgrade, in the Serbian Cup, since Borjan's arrival, and even before, it's been a different story:

Lost in the quarter-finals in 2017-18:

Lost to their rivals Partizan in the finals in 2018-19:

Lost to their rivals Partizan in the semi-finals in 2019-20:
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019–20_Serbian_Cup

They will face Partizan in the finals this year:

Will this be the year that Milan Borjan and Red Star Belgrade finally win the double?

The easy answer is he isn't really challenged much and as a result has become complacent which then comes back to bite him in the ass on international duty.

Based on the dominance of his team that seems to be a reasonable conclusion but if he's not challenged much then how is it that he keeps getting selected as their top player? That's the part that doesn't fully fit together for me.

By that logic, Manuel Neuer is complacent playing for Germany.

I mean Bayern doesn't dominates the Bundesliga like Red Star does the SuperLiga, plus he gets put through his paces in the CL, recently when Red Star have been in the CL they get blitzed by whoever they face.

Also really, there's no comparing the two, Neuer is arguably the greatest GK to ever play and at worst among the best. Borjan isn't even the best in CONCACAF.
