De Guzman on the club vs country debate that is currently going on around him. Does he get permission to leave to play in the Soccer Bowl, or captain his side in World Cup Qualifiers. Country won out (right call in my opinion).

“To miss a final, it’s heartbreaking and something no one ever wants to experience. It’s something the league (NASL) itself needs to really look into in the future. MLS and most leagues in the world stop for international matches, so I think NASL should be able to do the same.”

“It was a very tough decision,” he said. “For the past couple of weeks, we’ve been going back and forth between club and country. At the end of the day, after speaking with Benito (Floro) and (Fury coach) Marc Dos Santos as well, it is national team commitments and World Cup qualifying, so it’s important that I’m around here for that.”

This would be during the 1998 WCQ, the last time we made the Hex.

We beat Panama 3-1 in Edmonton to start the round, and then twice we beat Cuba 2-0.  We next tied Panama in Panama but beat El Salvador 1-0 at Swangard Stadium and just like that we were through to the Hex.  We also beat El Salvador 2-0 away to close out the round.

5 huge WCQ victories.  Bunbury and Peschisolido 3 goals each.

If I read the results right, that 1998 away win in ES came when both teams had already secured progress to the next round.

That would mean our last win in central america when both teams had stakes in the game is May 2 1993 in ES. I discount the win in Guatemala during the 2006 cycle as it came when they had already progressed too.

Huh.

i could not be more excited for this upcoming game, I keep looking over every scenario in my head but realistically we need to look at one segment a time because of a lot of things can change of the course of this long round.

So, are you saying we should "take it one game at a time"?  Interesting.  Should we also "go out there and give 110%"?  Perhaps we should "bring our 'A' game"?

;)

Anybody notice that the players haven been wearing winter jackets inside bc place.

Have they kept the roof open this week? Or are they not turning the heat on?

either way i like it. Heck crank the AC on match day

in the interview Hoilett mentions that it's quite cold inside BC Place, which should be a huge benefit for us

Will Johnson played down suggestions that Canada will struggle to find the team chemistry needed to get off to a positive start in the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

...

“We feel confident we’ll be on the same page Friday and going to execute a game plan set up by the coaching staff.”
