Does anyone know how it's been going for him so far?

He's been assigned to the A1, that's juniors. But hasn't played for them so far. After that he would have to go to Jong Heerenveen (u23) and if he does well there, he might get a chance under Foppe de Haan. I think they have brought him in as a long term project, he'll get time o get used to his new environment and the different game.

Borges is listed on the U19 roster:

He is listed as being "Portuguese", which i assume means he has a Portuguese passport and likely why he was able to sign before his 18th bday.

He's listed as Portuguese born. Geboorteland means country of birth (which is Portugal). You're right that Heerenveen could pick him up early because he has a Portuguese passport.

I think in all further communications Heerenveen called him Canadian.

Has been promoted to the first team it would seem : https://www.sc-heerenveen.nl/nieuws/sc-heerenveen-begint-oefencampagne-met-overwinning1/10

*Scores the second goal*

Judging by the line-ups and 11 man switch at half-time it appears they played upwards of 10 youth players. He is definitely training with the first team, but it doesn't look like he's there on a permanent basis yet.

Also can we talk about how unfortunate a name his teammate Jizz Hornkamp has? Yikes.

Octavio Zambrano hoping to get Borges his first cap with Canada, but he also has Portuguese passport.

Can't cap him if we don't play...oh CSA...what are you doing?

YES! The CSA should set up a FIFA sanctioned tournament or schedule our next WCQ match right now to cap tie him?!

/s

You know a friendly wouldn't cap tie him right?

I know, but it makes it more likely that he will commit to us if he tries us in friendlies.

Based on what? You think if we had a game scheduled for the November window in which he played but then he received a call up to a Portuguese youth team there's a greater chance he wouldn't accept? Come on.

This knee jerk reaction to always blame the CSA when someone mentions dual nationalities is ridiculous. This kid is 19 and still playing youth football. There's no indication he's considering or even on the radar of Portugal. We'll presumably have a camp in January in which if OZ deems him worthy, he'll get a call. If this kid was such an amazing prospect and there were worries about loosing him why didn't OZ call him in September? Do you not trust OZ's judgement?

At least this shows us that OZ is keeping on top of youngsters in Europe.  Funny how we go from a couple posts about a kid every few months to blaming the CSA for not getting him into camp/friendlies.  If we had called Crisante, Ferrieira, Eustaquio, Borges and all the other guys that look good in hindsite we would have had 60 guys in the last camp.

At each camp though there should be a couple of youngsters to expose them to the set up and to say that we have real interest in your development and ability.  We don't need to see our top guys at each camp if it will negatively impact their club situation, and we don't need to see the same mediocre players time and time again because we know what they can do ie Straith, Ledgerwood  types.   Call in players like Eustaquio and Borges.  Oz did that with some of the younger South American players and hopefully will do this in the future to further develop the pool and commit some of the younger dual nationals to Les Rouges.

So a twitter post linking to another twitter post? Why not post the link to the article?

Then we could have also learned that Borges has been playing as a#10 and LB (Zwolle are looking for a LB) and has been training with the first team. Gent is also interested and currently have our U17 star Johnny David of Ottawa training with them (call him their pearl).

Hope he stays playing as a #10 wherever he goes, as we have left back options. Watched him play for the U17 and U20s in Concacaf WC qualifying. He scored a real gem against Costa Rica for the U17s. Very talented player and great 1 on 1. Looked a little slow and his completion rate was not great for the U20s but has a lot of upside which he seems to be capitalizing on. Its massive that Euro teams are taking note of our youth and hopefully David can catch on as well.
