Olympique_de_Marseille
Canada vs USA Match Time: 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific, Tuesday October 13th Match Location: Rio Tinto Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah (5pm local) Broadcast: canadasoccer.com & TLN TV I'll be optimistic this time. I predict a dramatic overtime win. 3-2.
Soccerpro
USA aren't very good, but we are a disaster, especially at the back. If the USA run down our left or right side enough, they'll get chances galore. 3-1 USA.
Unnamed Trialist
The US fans do not believe much in their chances against us. They think they were lucky. The write things like (on comments after the match report vs. Honduras) "thank god they don't have Larin". So hopefully Floro, or whoever has us there (Benito should really go to DC already), will try to get a good game out of us. Everyone knows, the US too, that beating Colombia in Rio in March will be terribly hard, maybe tougher than Mexico. But it is worth trying, and gives the younger guys great experience. Anyone see the complaints from US fans that tix in Salt Lake were at 75$ lowest price, that is ridiculous. I was not sure, but it seems there were not more fans for their game than ours, I just assumed most had left. So they have their beefs with US Soccer like we do with the CSA. Floortom
JGL and Piette will be sure to spot the U.S. with a goal each as they are apt to do. 3-1 for the U.S. again

The CSA has never had minimum $75 ticket prices for games they run. Never been any beef there. Also is it concacaf or the us soccer fed thats running this tournament and setting the prices? Concacaf loves high prices, ie gold cup.
red card
Attendance at US/Honduras match was only a scattering as Gavin Day would put it. I was wondering why attendance has been dirt poor since Americans tend to show up for anything. But $75 min ticket prices means somebody overestimated how dumb they are. Admin
When it's the CSA running the show, they are great to us. They have never had anything approaching a $75 US ticket price. My problems this summer were with CONCACAF and FIFA.
Obinna
I predict that Petrasso scores in the dying minutes to give us the win. This ignites a shit storm on MLSsoccer.com, with disgruntled American fans calling for Canada to be kicked out of Major League Soccer.

I agree, 3 or 4 soccer nerds out of a population of 320 million will lose their minds and call for MLS to pull out of Canada IF the US U-23's lose on Tuesday. Those morons probably troll this board the same way you troll those in the US, so you are in good company. The MLS is NEVER leaving Canada so get over it. Shway
I predict1-1 at HT, and 2-1 final Canada result. Goals from: CAN: AJH, Piette USA: Kieswetter We match best against the US, and considering they got a little lucky last game, with the early goal- I would be surprised if we don't see a Canada team with a chip on their shoulders. My winning eleven: —————————Crepeau————————— Grant----------Thomas-----------Luca------------JGL --------------------------Piette (c)--------------------------- Petrasso-----Estaqiuou----Babouli-------Boakai ----------------------------AJH----------------------------------

Keegan
We need to start with some fire definitely. Last time we beat the USA in 2012 I remember Andres Fresenga cleaning out Brek Shea early on and clearly throwing him off. This USA team isn't as talented as the 2012 team but I think Jordan Morris is a stud, go in early, hard and often.

I just watched the 3-1 US win over Canada in the first game and I can see why the US fans think they were lucky in that game. Canada did outplay the Americans and Canada's lack of polish around the 18 was the difference. Canada was unlucky to not get a tie out of that game. Canada held possession well and stifled any American attack through the middle. If Canada plays the same way, the Americans start getting frustrated and a break or two goes the right way, Canada could indeed pull out a win here. I say, 2-1 Canada. Keegan
There is nothing more dangerous in this game we love than a second chance. Our boys should be foaming at the mouths here. Are we going to correct our wrongs and win this game or are we going to let the USA bury us? We can win this game, forget the negativity surrounding JGL and Piette.. those are two of our most valuable players to anyone with a football brain, the important thing is that they correct past mistakes and lead us here. It's ironic to say that we outplayed the USA in the last match but JGL/Piette were the reasons we lost because without those two we would not have "outplayed" the USA.. FACT. Samuel Piette is a stud. I don't care if he's had two bad touches that lead to goals... it happens to EVERYONE in world football that spends time in their own part of the field, I think I'll stick with the opinion of Floro and Deportivo (who describe him as a "crack" in their program) also FWIW at the Dominica match there were 10 English guys from Bristol next to me who went out of their way to come up to me and my friends and ask us who Piette was and who he played for (when I told them he was only 20 they were shocked), and that was the only player on our MNT that impressed them. JGL is slow, sure but he also is without a doubt the best choice for LB after Adekugbe in our U23 program.
Soccerpro
JGL over Allan Zebie? Not a chance. He's been responsible for how many goals now? Let me get my calculator out. Piette has been ok, not anywhere near as good as Petrasso who has been the only standout for the team so far. I was expecting more for a guy who has been starting for the CMNT. As for everyone believing we outplayed the U.S? We had lots of possession in the middle 3rd, with Petrasso occasionally running at their RB. Just about every time the U.S counter attacked, they were dangerous, as in many possible goal scoring opportunities. How many goal scoring chances did we have? Very few. Having possession and doing something with possession are two different things. I don't view stringing a whole bunch of sideways passes at midfield as a moral victory. I'm looking forward to seeing this match and especially Petrasso.

Piette has been ok, not anywhere near as good as Petrasso who has been the only standout for the team so far. I was expecting more for a guy who has been starting for the CMNT. You'd put a right-footed fullback on the left side of the pitch over a naturally left-footed winger? And he is responsible for the goals you say. There's always somebody to blame when it comes to goals, and it's rarely the forwards. You know if you get into defensive positions, any mistake can be costly (as I'm sure G-L will understand by now). Then the second part, Piette is a defensive mid. Not a flashy forward. It's his job to disturb the play of the opponents and give the ball to somebody with the same shirt on who can do more with the ball like Petrasso. Moreover, I think these kind of pressure situations for Piette (and others of course) will prove very valuable to the NT in the near future. And a playoff against Colombia even more so. red card
Piette is the type of player that the majority of Canadian football followers don't notice unless he makes a mistake. His role also needs other players to be in good positions to receive outlet passes but we don't have a plethora of high football IQ Canadian players. To my eyes, in the Mexico match, he was trying to chest the ball to Gasparotto for him to clear, but Luca wasn't on the same wave length and the ball bounced for Lozana. Likewise with JGL, he has a good football brain and good technical skills but he is no speedster. The best players on the best teams have these attributes. And these type of players are best suited for the midfield rather than the backline. JGL playing the backline is more of reflection of not getting all our players released and the high level of quality of JGL that he is viewed as the best option vs pure back line players. shermanator
Well, I'm not expecting a result from this game based on how the rest of the tournament has gone. I'll be watching the stream of the senior team game instead as I am much more intrigued by that game than this, even with what's on the line here. My prediction for this game: people will crap on JGL at some point in the thread after this post.
BearcatSA
After watching parts of the round robin match vs the US I'm not particularly confident in the 1 v 1 defending skills of any of our back line players.
