NEW Mother of all Canucks Abroad (and domestic)

Added Greg Ranjitsingh, since he has a Canadian passport. He plays for Louisville City FC in the USL. He has played for U20 and U23 for Trinidad & Tabago, so once he has a senior game for them I will get rid of him. But until them, under the new rules he is eligible to be on the list.

That's a question that is needed to ask. Should we have a rule on what kind of players are on the list? I'll be honest, I like madmonte's rule. Canadian until proven otherwise by playing on another national team.

Actually that's also my rule. If you own a Canadian passport and are eligible to play for Canada, you're on the list until you choose a different national team.

I do think that if you've played for another national team, youth level or otherwise, you should be excluded until you play for Canada. Ranjitsingh has played for another country before and that's why I wouldn't put him on the list because odds are that he'll stay for the same program.

Yeah, but my philosophy is that anything can happen in football. I mean for this particular player you're almost 99% going to be right. But there are too many examples in world football, where the switch after a U20 still occurs!

I do a monthly segment on Canadian soccer player's abroad on the well known Two Solitudes Podcast. If you are into listening to audio stuff, check out the  brand new episode: http://archive.org/download/TwoSolitudesSoccerPodcast109CanucksAbroadC-leagueAndCanadianReview/TwoSolitudesSoccerPodcast109CanucksAbroadC-leagueAndCanadianReview.mp3

This bothered me, so I reached out to the player.

Greg told me the following:

"i've always had interest playing for canada. i knew at a young age that i wanted to play at the top level and thought playing at the national level would be very beneficial to that, so i acquired dual citizenship with trinidad to open up my options. when canada didn't give me the opportunity, trinidad did, but since then i haven't committed to any national teams and i'm open to anyone who gives me a chance"

For this reason, he will stay in the list.

If we drop the twitter handle, use country codes, position codes and a shorter division system, this will fit on a dedicated page.

I would suggest spaces between the countries and additional copies of the column headers throughout the document.

I have made some major changes to the document.

1) I have linked the twitter handles to the last name instead and got rid of the Twitter account handle.

2) I have changed Country names to country codes to lower the width

3) I completely got rid of naming the league systems. It is now just "1", "2", etc. depending on the division.

4) There are still various formatting changes that I will implement at a later date, such as consistent spacing, etc.

5) I still want do do position codes, but I may need some help with that one. Some may have more than one.

I suggest the following guide:

Goalkeeper: Orange

GK: Goalkeeper
CB: Center-back
LCB: Left center-back
RCB: Right center-back
LB: Left-back (Full-back)
RB: Right-back (Full-back)
CM: Centre midfield
LDM: Left center midfield
RDM: Right center midfield
CDM: Centre defensive midfield
CAM: Centre attacking midfield
LM: Left midfield
RM: Right midfield
ST: Striker
CF: Center forward
LW: Left winger
RW: Right winger

Was just looking at some upcoming matches to watch and came across him and didn't notice him on your and Madmonte's list.

I'm not sure if he's starting but Estonia U19 are playing Serbia in 40 mins and game can be watched here. http://live.realstreamunited.com/

EDIT:

He's starting for Estonia U19. Game starts in 15 mins.

Not so sure about the great find because he was pretty poor today :) , but I have a better one.

Zorhan Bassong is currently at Anderlecht youth academy. He's Canadian.

Personally I prefer tracking someone in the Swedish first division over U16 youth, haha.

Interesting article here discussing his work permit issues in depth: https://www.anderlecht-online.be/fr/article/25867 .

Apparently there is a second Canadian, who tried his luck there too. His name is Reka Leotrim.

Wanna help me find some info on them? So far I've got their names :D

Caolan Lavery just signed with Portsmouth on loan . He used to play U17 in Canada and then played for Northern Ireland in U19 and U21. Is he still eligible to play for the Canadian senior national team? www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/factfile-pompey-loan-signing-caolan-lavery-1-7006228

I believe he can't play anymore for us because he used the one-time switch to play for NI.
