What's the most exciting MNT game that you have ever watched?

On the video page, I just added two videos from the Canada-Guatemala WCQ games from 1988. Watching the game again brought back bittersweet memories. Brutally painful because we had our golden generation and only had Guatemala in our way of a Mexico-less hex. Although being in the stadium in Leon for Canada's first game of the '86 WC against France was very close, the second half of the Guatemala game was the most exciting sporting event I have witnessed in person. We scored three times in the last twenty minutes to tie on aggregate, but needed one more to avoid going out on the away goals rule.

What's the most exciting MNT game you ever watched?

For me it was the 2004 WCQ against Honduras in Edmonton.  DeVos scores.  Honduras ties it on a phantom penalty call.  Stalteri throws a water bottle at the ref and gets himself suspended for the rest of WCQ.  Occean scores a late winner, only to be called back for a phantom foul.

2008 Can - Jam WCQ at BMO. The anticipation going into this match and the genuine, heartfelt buzz  made it great. TFC was still in its infancy and the novelty of the south end was still in full force. The supporters were not yet jaded. Couple that with a night game, the Ex in swing and our MNT full of optimism at the start of a new round of qualifying  and you had all the right ingredients in place.

Also, it was the first time in the modern supporters era that a game was pro-Canadian in a place where it normally would be overrun by the visitors. Onstad's mistake was a killer, but there's no doubt that the mood in the stands was electric.

For me the most unforgettable game was the one we played vs Colombia in the year 2000, during the Gold Cup final.  That was a glorious moment in the history of Canadian Soccer.  Especially because, before that final,We beat Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago.  It was a great tournament.

2007 gold cup quarter final. We beat Guatemala 3-0. The prettiest goal I've ever seen us score. Gerba finished off after a dozen or so passes.

The 2-1 win against Costa Rica from that tournament has to be up there too.  De Guzman scored two of the nicest goals we've had in the last decade and pulled off the nicest back heel nutmeg you could ever imagine late on in the game too.

In 2009 the 1-0 win against Jamaica off of Gerba's volley was really exciting, what a finish.

And even though it was a friendly the 3-2 loss to Brazil in 2008 was magic, it was a classic De Guzman performance (even with the giveaway for the winner he was still MOTM for me).. the optimism after that game was unbelievable to think we had JDG in his prime, DeRo, Radzinski, Klukowski all in form and Rob Friend scored too!  We finally thought he had turned a corner for the MNT.

Similarly, the next game at home to Honduras in Montreal when Serioux scored first - I was only watching on TV but I remember jumping out of my chair.  The less said about the rest of the game, the better...

+1 to that brother.  For those of us behind the goal it was absolutely mental, I was 17 at the time but I'll never forget that even if we lost.

The moments after that goal were wild. I spilled beer on the person below me..(sorry!)

There was also the Radz toe poke attempt into an empty net that ended up with him being shoulder checked into the end boards and the Gerba header off the post. We could have been up 3-0, but alas...

I think excitement comes from tempo and this match seemed to have a fair bit of it, iirc.

Too bad Mexico scored off a BS free kick when De Jong (?) was fouled but somehow they got the FK.  Also remember Stalteri hitting the bar on the break late in the match.

Little to argue against in terms of an exciting play, but the overall game didn't have the that special tempo/urgency , so that's way I went with my choice.

2-2 against Mexico in Edmonton in 1997 would be my choice (saw it on TV). I think we were still alive at that point.

1-0 in Havana vs. Cuba in the last cycle of WCQ. Whole trip really was a highlight but when Occean put that header in, every single one of us ran that chain link fence and were up on it freaking out. That was just such an experience, hoping we can get something similar in Mexico City.

Really? That was a great moment but it was a horrible fucking game.
