Nova Scotia implementing LTPD - No standings for U-12.

Simple observation of children’s soccer around the world shows that the absence of a trophy or league title does nothing to diminish each player’s desire to compete each time they step onto the soccer pitch for a match. The important difference is that the elimination of standings below U12 diminishes the incentive for coaches at these levels to play to “win the league” because they are chasing a trophy and a league title at the end of the season. It also reduces pressure from parents to win, to perform, and to avoid mistakes.”

As a relative newbie to following the national team this intensely, this leads me to ask, has another Nova Scotian  than Jazic been a regular on the national team?

The list of pro soccer players, excluding Clippers players, from  Nova Scotia is made of Ante Jazic, Derek Gaudet and Mesut Mert. If you can name me one other former pro from Nova Scotia, I applaud you. So, I doubt that there's been any regular because it's hard for them to get scouted and play against stronger opposition.

Trevor Reddick is from Nova Scotia.  He spent some time with Lazne Bohdanec in the Czech Republic 1st div back in 1997 and later played with the Ottawa Wizards (semi-pro).  I don't know how many games he played with Lazne Bohdanec.

He also spent some time in England, but I don't remember the level or if it was just a trial.

I can tell you that as a coach and league convener in Ontario that every kid, parent and coach still keeps scores.  So does the referees as submitting the score card is how they get paid.  Every coach and kid are still playing to win too; that that hasn't changed even if no official standings are kept.

What I can see in the last couple years is the the league has brought in a training plan for the younger kids and brings that plan up a year each year.  In our club the Club Head Coach and TD attend the training sessions to provide some additional support.  Also the official plan is often a bit inflexible and in some cases it's either too advanced for the kids or not advanced enough.  It's better than no structure at all though, that's pretty clear.

The larger problem still remains that there are a bunch of for profit academies outside the LTPD plan so the development pathway is extremely disjointed and inconsistent for the better kids.  Also the LTPD is very GTA focused so it doesn't really work in smaller centers.

Matt Brittner was drafted by the New England Revolution after playing for Brown University and being the captain of the u20 National team. He didn't make the MLS team.

I was going to mentioned Brittner. Played against him at the U17 level whe our team played the Nova Scotia Provincial team. Good player, did all the little things right. Technically sound. Played CB and defensive midfield.

He was captain of the U20 team but never played with Edgar, de Jong, Hainault, Ledgerwood and co at the World Cup, because he tore his ACL. To this day I believe that's why he never made it with New England.

To add to that, Mesut has a senior cap with Canada. I don't know if Derek does but I do know he was briefly with TFC. I can't remember if he ever made the field with the1st team.
