Audax/Corinthians from Brazil versus Colo Colo from Chile will play for the Libertadores Cup title on Saturday in Paraguay.

Be interesting to see what the attendance is,

Whatever happened to Venezuela?  They had some great youth results and look so promising but seem to have taken a step backward.

Venezuelan team Estudiantes de Guaricó finished in 3rd place in their group with 1 win 1 tie and 1 loss.  Only the top teams from the 3 groups plus the best second qualified for the semi finals.  The teams competing in the cup are all the league winners from their respective countries.

[ 1 ]   I'm glad somebody recognized that Megan Rapinoe's remarks  about Deyna Castellanos were uncharitable:

http://www.espn.com/espnw/voices/article/21182418/in-defense-florida-state-seminoles-deyna-castellanos-fifa-flap-led-megan-rapinoe

To me, Deyna Castellanos  could be the best player to emerge from South America since Marta, that said,  it was probably too soon for Deyna Castellanos  to be a finalist, or to be  shortlisted,  for the  FIFA's Best Women's Player in the World award. But in the future, when she's older and playing pro, no one should be surprised to see  Deyna Castellanos up for this award -- and she's probably bringing a lot of fan votes with her again  when it  happens.

[ 2 ]  The final of  2017 Copa Libertadores  Femenina  between   Audax/Corinthians and  Colo Colo was streamed on CONMEBOL's facebook page which  peaked at 59 900 viewers during PKs.  Not bad.

I really want Christine Sinclair to catch  Abby Wambach's  goal scoring record , that said Dutch striker Vivianne  Miedema  may be on track to catch either Sinclair  and/or  Wambach. Earlier this week Miedema scored her 50th international goal  and she was younger than both Sinclair and Wambach  when they scored their 50th international goal.

Charlotte Retweeted Arsenal Women

21 years, 8 months for Vivianne Miedema

21 years, 10 months for Christine Sinclair,

25 years, 7 months for Abby Wambach

The number of goals you score is a function of the number of games you play a year, the quality of your team & teammates, what position you play, do you take the team's PKs, etc. You could be twice the second best defender in the world and play for the Solomon Islands a couple times a year and not crack the top 10,000.

First half in the books at 0-0.

Lyon the clear aggressor and hard pressed to be without a goal, but Wolfsburg are keeping them honest and have a couple gamebreakers like Hansen who can flip the game upside down if they get a chance.

Sure looked like the ref missed two PKs which would have made it a very different game indeed.

Hansen out for Wullaert, so the Germans will look to get a result from the pace of Pajor and Wullaert and with Popp and Harder balancing the attack.

Buchanan still on the bench.

The referee seems to struggle with getting the contact calls right in real time.

Interesting goal-line clearance call around 70'.

The official on the sideline for the call is none other than Sian Massey (now Massey-Ellis) who had been doing the lines on English Premier League games for years.

Pretty tough making that call from anywhere on the field though, you are usually obstructed by players, the goalpost, etc.

Why is there no goal-line technology in place? Pretty shocking omission.

Lyon with an insane four goals at 98', 99', 103' and 116' for the very well-deserved win 4-1 win.

Great way for Abily to end her career with the final goal.

Was really impressed by the defending in the game, especially Fischer and Renard. Some of the best strikers in the world and they routinely put them down.

I had to stop watching for about half an hour right after the end of regulation time.  Doh!

Too bad that Buchanan didn't play, but if she's learning stuff from Renard while she's there, then she's learning from the best.

Sorry to hear about the timing. It was kind of surreal when it happened.

Wolfsburg managed the game well until Popp took her second yellow and then almost instantly lost their s__t.

Not sure it was the numerical disadvantage as opposed to just mentally cracked. They had some opportunities but Lyon had been at them all game.

Watching the game I couldn't help but reflect on the past half century and how magical the whole thing was. Only 14K in the stands but the spectacle of the event was 10 times that.

It was also realizing that 50 years ago these players would have all been working in factories and offices. It's incredibly moving to see how far the world has come and the opportunities for girls and women.

And speaking of opportunities... couldn't help but reflect as well on the utter failure in Canada to capitalize on our early advantages in the women's game.

Instead of identifying our leadership in the women's game and play to our strength and develop a club side to match it and take it forward, we completely ignored any club development and have managed to wither our women's domestic club side to third world level in the women's game.

It's too bad there hasn't been better vision and leadership. Watching this match today and reflecting on everything gained and lost in the women's club game over the past half century seemed to be gained elsewhere and lost in Canada.

"Between July 2017 and June 2018, they looked at nine national papers one day a month and took note of what photographs were used. In total they found 3,107 pictures of people doing sport. Of those, five were of men and women together, 3,011 were of men – and just 91 were of women: 2.9% of the total.

On the worst day of their survey, during September 2017, there were 365 pictures of men doing sport and one solitary photograph of a woman.

And even when sportswomen were pictured, photographs often showed them in a dress picking up an award, or draped in a flag – not actually doing the thing they were famous for."

It's a vicious circle, how can women dream of becoming athletes if they never see them and hear their stories?

I will say that the Globe and Mail, at least recently on Saturdays in the photo spread section of the sports, usually has a good representation of female athletes. There is hardly ever any reporting of female leagues though, only national teams doing well on the international stage.
