Moldy9
Yeah it's incredible. 3 away goals! If they hold on that will be tough for Jamaica to come back from in Managua! And if Jamaica is gone, it would seem Hoilett would only have Canada to choose (for those who'd want him).

Keegan
I guess Jamaica was on too much of a high after that Gold Cup. To be down 3-0 to Nicaragua even away at any point would be embarassing... but with them getting 2 goals I feel they'll pull through.

They may eek through but it is highly non trivial given the away goals ... They essentially have to win by 2 on the road, and N is not a complete minnow. But of course with Nicaragua knowing they just need a draw it won't be your typical home game.
Toronto Ruffrider
I can't believe Jamaica lost 3-2 to Nicaragua in Kingston. I still think they will advance - this isn't an easy task, but they can perform with a little urgency. Great result for Nicaragua. The A&B win was pretty solid. Guatemala will have to sweat a little at home in order to move on, too.
Cheeta
Yikes. Can't tell you if Jamaica can still get through or not but I can tell you this, that return leg in Nicaragua is going to be one brutal watch. The CFL football this weekend will have waaaay more longer periods of play between whistles than that match is ever going to. Forget Throwback Thursday, bet you the Nicaraguans introduce Throwback "Tuesday". Sons of Bitches will be break dancing all over the pitch. Spinning around, grabbing ankles. madmonte
The only thing holding Nicaragua back is money and politics. the players are there, the potential is there, they just need good systems in place. Maybe this is the first sign of progress. I was saying the last couple times I saw them play that they weren't actually all that horrible.

Maybe this is the first sign of progress. I was saying the last couple times I saw them play that they weren't actually all that horrible. They just aren't talented enough for their rivals, them and Belize are in the same class. Not horrible at all but they're still a ways from even a team like Guatemala. Anyone else jealous of this though from the JFF? Patrons will have a special and unique opportunity to support the Reggae Boyz in their return World Cup Qualifying fixture against Nicaragua as a result of a charter organized by the Jamaica Football Federation. The Charter will leave Jamaica on Tuesday, September 8th at 1:00 pm; arrive in Managua at 2:00 pm and depart to Jamaica on September 9th at 6:00 am. The game is to be played on Tuesday September 8th at the Estadio Nacional de Futbol de Nicaragua which has a capacity of 20,000 and match time is 7:30 pm. The cost per person is USD650 and this covers airfare, taxes, ground transportation and match ticket. I wonder what kind of numbers they'll get? ThiKu
Jamaica can of course win 2-0, 3-1 in Nicaragua. I would not for one second be surprised if it ends 1-1, or 1-2 and Nicaragua advance....I am very surprised with the result in Kingston as you all are. Wow. Jamaica being knocked out would be an awesome sight - for no other reason than they are a hex rival/hurdle for us - but I can't stand them. Probably since the 1-1 in Toronto.... The thing about Jamaica that annoys me is that such a large percentage of their squad is English. To me that must be actually a disadvantage playing at home with these players... imagine them playing their first game in extreme heat on a bumpy pitch.. not exactly "home turf". I think that was probably an advantage that Nicaragua had on Jamaica in this match. The next game will be on artificial turf so again it will be an adjustment for some of their players. JAVIERF
Jamaica is gone , without their backbone of players daniel gordon-morgan-mccleary -macanuff - GONE 2-3 against a team in humid centralamerican you just need a crook ref but the home side is not gonna get crooked that easily the penality was weird dont know

Not horrible at all but they're still a ways from even a team like Guatemala. Nicaragua, is way above Belize's level. Belize is full of amateurs who actually have other full time jobs and careers. Although, officially Nicaragua has always had a National league, it was always a joke. No more than a few dozen in attendance as soccer always took a back seat to Baseball and Boxing. However, after Real Esteli acquired new owners in early 2000's a huge investment was made by the new owners who transformed the club into a professionally run organization. Investments were made to their website, and in acquiring players, the stadium was upgraded and professional coaches were hired. Then they went on a tear for like 6-7 years winning the National Championship. They did it at the right time as TV coverage of top European teams became available in local free to air channels, in particular LA LIGA matchups between Messi and Cristiano. Nicaragua actually owes Messi a huge thanks for captivating the new generation and stealing fans from Baseball. Once Real Esteli became professionally run, their fansbase grew in leaps and bounds and all of a sudden it was possible to make money owning a soccer team. Many other clubs got new owners and are now investing as Esteli did way back when. Real Esteli showed Nicaraguans that it could actually compete against Costa Rican and other Central American teams. Another thing that helped was that Nicaragua had its head in tight with FIFA and their cronies, and FIFA provided money to have the National stadium upgraded. Most of that money went into the pockets of the now indicted president. BUt some upgrades were done. The players on the National team are for the first time Professionals. They are getting paid "well" and can devote their livelihoods to just playing the game. This new crop is bringing the Latin flair that most Central American countries are known for and are the first crop of Academy trained professionals. In fact ESPN nominated the Nicaraguan team for top 10 plays see link here: Remember Nicaragua made it to the Gold Cup for the first time ever in 2009. There is much more I could say but all this is to say that if Canada is ever to have a chance of leaving purgatory than a Professional NATIONAL League is the only answer we need. In a short amount of time 5-7 years Nicaragua a perennial 190+ ranked team will jump to 86 for the first time ever after defeating a Gold Cup finalist. Also there was a Canadian kid from the TFC academy that went to Nicaragua to try his luck with the youth team and to become a professional. Kinda sad when Canadian kids are going to Nicaragua to fulfill a soccer dream. We need a league.
