Bully
I love Ricketts' effort, and his ability to be the janitor but maybe he would serve better as a sub. His speed would be more useful in the last 10 minutes, especially with fresh legs against tired defenders. Teibert is versatile and has the ability to play out wide, he's proven it. I think he should be in the starting 11. He offers that step up in quality that we need, not to mention another midfielder with an actually half decent touch to support Atiba and Will. tmcmurph
Great result! I couldn't see the match but happy to see us win for a change. What is with the smoke bombs guys? Seriously? Ultra culture has no place here in Canada and what could smoke bombs possibly serve to do aside from some loser's lame attempt to replicate flares and dumbass ultra culture? I'm at a loss to understand this. I love the fact that we have support groups for the Men's National Team, but smoke? WTF? I've never understood smoking the field. Some claim it makes it hard for the other team's keeper but it also makes it hard for our players to breath and see what they are doing. Dumb all around IMHO. Wingback6
Not sure where the Issey hate is coming from? Maybe because people wanted to see someone else out there?? I actually think he had a great game. He has his flaws, to be sure, lack of pace, failure to track back and a bit of dirty tactics. But going forward he was a difference maker out there. He makes very intelligent runs into space, which helped open up the defence, even if it didn't lead directly to goals. Contrast that with Larin, and Rickettes whose off the ball movement is often poor. But that comes with experience I suppose. He is also very unselfish with the ball, and made some lovely little passes that helped move the ball from side to side, contrast that with Johnson and Teibert, who can only seem to play in one direction (to be clear I thought they both had very good games as well) . In fact Issey's passing range, and vision were key. He was the missing link in a lot of attacks, helping the midfield connect with other forwards, or to the flank. Often this led to chances for his teammates or himself. Just because they didn't result in the goals, doesn't mean they weren't important. Sure he missed his volley's, but it says something that he got open for them at all, several times. I doubt anyone else on the team would have buried those chances either. Floro left him out there for a reason. Though if it weren't for DeGuz's early exit, I think we might have seen Issey pulled to make way for a cap. shorty
Another vote to pull Issey... This guy who couldn't make it in MLS just isn't at the level of some other MLS-based players who are warming the bench and who could play out wide. Just a severe lack of quality, composure and creativeness from him tonight - he killed too many build ups with poor passes, crosses or just plain losing the ball... not to mention several weak, weak shot attempts. Definitely agree that Issey was uneven (and that's charitable because his shots were admittedly terrible), but he was also largely responsible for the second goal with his hustle to get a second (or third) phase going. He chases down the ball, fights off a defender and spreads the ball wide to Ledgerwood who crosses for the goal. This is an example of the one thing I did like from him, which was his industry and forward-thinking intent. Very similar to Ricketts actually in the sense that we can bash him for what he lacks, but he brings something that others aren't. I live for the day when we have players who are the whole package up front and convert 1 in 3 attempts rather than 1 for every 8, but for now 1 in 8 is better than 0 in anything. Edit: wingback beat me to a few points

kingvikingstad
When Piette was walking next to Tiebert after the third goal it was striking the difference in their statures. Beachtory
After the first canada goal and the first smoke, there where at times 8 cops, security of various uniforms standing in front of 115,113. Pacing back and forth, talking on radios, talking among themselves before resuming staring into the the crowd with clear menace. Candidly, i was intimidated as i had my 9 year old with me. After goal 2, they moved in to stare down the crowd - no other words to decribe their body language and actions. And thats Before at least two cups of beer flew out of crowd, the first doused a cop pretty well. The comment i have is, what is the role of security? Is it to provide a safe environment for the paying customer or is it to be aggressive and the blame the fan(s) who feel intimidated? Open questions for sure. then game ends and we exit the seats and proceed through the stadium under the east side heading for gate 1. Met inside stadium around section 108ish by a line of yellow security telling everyone to turn around and go back to the south end and exit there. Into the CNE where to get to the GO train station involves looping through the CNE not along the outside of the stadium. So i question why they are doing this and with my 9 year old standing there, i get told to stand back, go back from a 20 something who looks on the edge of panic. I ask again why the interior of the stadium is being blocked and to speak to a supervisor. at this point the crowd is 20-30 deep completely accross the interior walk way (50 ft accross?) and 5-7 yellow security are yelling at the crowd. I leave fearing for my child, up the ramp back into the stadium, walk two sections through seats north, back down in to the walk way and out gate 1. Nothing happening in seats, just people filing down and out. i just dont get how thie security system at BMO still has ample evidence of limited or poor training and continues to employ individuals whose style exhibits the worst tribal 'us vs them' mentality. I am fortunate enough to have an opportunity to voice these observations at an executive level. I am sad to report that because BMO field has so many bosses (MLSE, CSA, CNE board, the City) that no one really is in charge, accountable or in a position to make a decision for change. Bison44
Awwwwwwwww, lets not bash Piette for having a chubby little baby face. I hear that after the game FLoro likes to give his cheeks a good pinch! Honestly I think that is why he goes with the weird hair, just to offset those cheeks. 1zzurri
Great result...amazing atmosphere. I hope we can play better on the return leg. Seeing Atiba and Johnson makes me happy. The players seemed ecstatic at the end of the game. You can tell they were happy with the south end. Top support. I saw tonnes of little kids having a blast, singing, jumping, waving flags in 114. If someone drops smoke, ok i get that people do it but i saw the guy who picked it up (i thought it was security but it wasn't) and whip it on the field. Why on god's earth would you do that? If it bothers ok, complain or let security deal with it but don't whip it on the field. And I am pretty sure it is a Voyageur member on here. I am looking forward to seeing where the next round of games will be held in Canada (if we get through).

Coramoor
Watching that highlight package I have no idea how you can bash Issey, sure he made some mistakes and squandered some possessions but he played an important role in the build up of the first two goals and sets up Will Johnson for a fantastic shot that resulted in a briliant save. Keegan
Beachtory is spot on. Security in general was so unnecessarily confrontational it was sickening. After the first half they threw out a family with two young boys and their parents because apparently they lit off a smoke bomb? I have a hard time believing either of the kids brought it in with their parents (no one in the group had any soccer gear whatsoever, the kid was wearing an Ohio State red shirt). Then, this jackass security guard named "Danilo" kicks out a supporter trying to stick up for the family. This made things WORSE, there were literally no problems before this. After we scored our second goal numerous fans threw their beers at the security guards as they turned towards the pitch.. of course this made security angrier. When more smoke bombs went off in the second half Mr. Hero Danilo tried to come into the row where they were lit off... I was very proud to see fellow fans stick up for each other, literally they would not let this jackass in the row to kick out anyone with numerous people telling him "get back on the field" to which he obliged and no one else was thrown out. The way fans are treated you would think this is 80s England. There is ZERO violence in the crowd... no one ever attempts to run on the pitch/endanger the safety of the players. Why do we need security video taping our section and staring us down for 90 minutes? Whoever threw the smoke bomb on the pitch, bad idea I'm guessing it was a kid though. Other than that though I don't see ANYTHING that warranted security coming into the crowd or kicking people out. It's smoke FFS. The smoke doesn't offend me whatsoever, it last seconds and if you don't want it blocking your sightline move to another section.. it was really concentrated in 115 wasn't it? I've never brought anything besides a flag into a stadium but I can say that our players love the ultra support style (I know this first hand from a current MNT player) and I know that everyone else in the stadium likes the smoke too, it gets people talking "Wow, those Canada fans are wild" and it grows our support. So: 1) players like it 2) other supporters and people new to CMNT like it 3) If you personally don't like it move away from the area where they are lit off (it's always the same section) 4) smoke in the stands, never on the field because when it's on the field you can cancel out #1 No one is hurt and everyone can go home happy. Califax
Honestly though Keegan, its not a matter of likeing it. I don't care one way or another but it's not worth doing if there is even a 1% chance that Fifa could fuck us. Its not like this sports governing body is a rational and of sober second thought. I would also have less issue with it being used vs Honduras. This game meant nothing. It was contraband. It was unnecessary.
Keegan
That's a very valid point Califax and it crossed my mind when I saw the one on the pitch but if smoke is controlled in the stands by SG (inebriatti in this case) I don't think we have to worry. I think the crowd was really riled up at security for being so hard on the smoke and fans and that escalated the smoke and more than likely the tosser (no pun intended )
