tc-in-bc
So this has been out there for a while ( Sophie Schmidt got engaged ) , and congratulations are in order. Not entirely certain, but if she changes her name then the CANWNT get " a Kyle " in the midfield again : Sophie Kyle nee Schmidt ?
tc-in-bc
[ 1 ] German interview ( June 8, 2018 ) with Sophie Schmidt : https://www.dfb.de/frauen-nationalmannschaft/news-detail/schmidt-in-hamilton-ist-alles-moeglich-187653/ Takeaways: - Canada is trying to get a match with Australia in August. -After three good seasons in Germany, Sophie Schmidt left her club FFC Frankfurt because her future husband could not get a visa in Germany . - Sophie Schmidt is planning to live in the Vancouver area and hopes to play for a North American club. [ 2 ] Sounds like a return to the NWSL for Sophie Schmidt and Sky Blue could still be in possession of her NWSL rights , even though she last played for them in 2014. Maybe Sophie Schmidt could be part of a Vancouver Whitecaps FC women NWSL expansion team? Olympique_de_Marseille

I'll be very curious to see if she doesn't mind returning to Sky Blue without him as a coach.
red card
Schmidt scores her 4th of the year. After a bit of lull, she seems to have found another gear this year. Dash are eliminated after losing 2-1 to KC. 21k+ in attendance which is the largest playoff attendance in NWSL history. Season average for the Dash was 5.6k which was 9/12 teams. red card
Lone Canadian Schmidt named to best NWSL 11 by Just Women's Sports. Sheridan often cited as best keeper but not with JWS. Starting all 18 games she appeared in this season, Sophie Schmidt was the backbone of the Dash midfield that helped carry the team to its first NWSL playoff appearance in franchise history. The well-rounded defensive midfielder dominated in possession, tackles, duels, aerial duels and long passes, and she read the game exceptionally with 40 interceptions. Accumulating three goals and one assist, she demonstrated a knack for shooting from anywhere, including loose balls in front of net and one-timer rockets from outside the 18-yard box. red card
2 hours ago, Olympique_de_Marseille said: Was Schmidt cut or has she officially retired? Priestman said in a conference call that she retired: Priestman admits she called the 35-year-old about returning to the fold for the qualifiers, to no avail. “I picked up the phone to confirm it was the case. She is at peace with her retirement. We have to honour that on Canadian soil. She’s been an unbelievable role model.” Chapman is out for personal reasons. Scott wants to be back for the Olympics. They're finalizing to play in the other 2 windows this year including having domestic matches. Other comments of note: World Cup Learnings: I'm going to be cautious. Some learnings are obvious. We don't concede, and 2023 has been the year of conceding. We're not blessed with scoring 5 goals a game. We need to defend well. We also need to beat a block. The number of chances we created was above England—but they converted. We kept Nigeria at bay. We had the ball, but what did we do with it? I went to Fiji for five days after the WC, and it still sucked. I put every ounce of myself into this WC. Some of what happened is me, some is on the players, and some is luck. I had to get back on the horse and prepare for a new journey, and I feel better now. Number one goal is Paris. Number two: evolve, but evolve to win. Jop Offers: If it has, I’ve been muting it! I think, ultimately, I’m really focused on getting this group to the Olympics and really going to defend our gold medal. I’d be silly to be unfocused knowing that we go into camp next week and we have to win these two football matches. https://canadiansoccerdaily.com/2023/09/08/canwnt-boss-bev-priestman-talks-righting-wrongs-jamaica-test-fall-plans-canmnt-vacancy-in-first-post-world-cup-briefing/ Edited September 9, 2023 by red card Olympique_de_Marseille and lamptern 1
