Kusch to the Corner
With Derosario now retired it seems like there is now a void to fill as far as who will take the penalty kicks. Thought a thread might be fun to throw some ideas around. I read somewhere on this forum that floro has already tipped Larin to be the designated penalty kick taker, not sure if that is true. That being said I have never seen Larin take a penalty kick maybe he's very good. Larin aside, if it were up to me I think I would be leaning towards: Marcel Dejong-seems to be excellent on free kicks and very good at ball placement. Teibert- same qualities as Dejong David Edgar - can hit a ball both low and hard good qualities to have as a penalty taker(last night aside)
Tuscan
Well we all saw what David brings to the table for penalties Give it to a vet, heck JDG for all I care. Just make sure it's a guy who's been there done that.
Obinna
Johnson takes them for Portland and can now be considered a veteran guy. He is a candidate if healthy.
BrennanFan
hutchinson is our penalty taker, assuming he is there. if we get a shootout at the GC, id go with teibert larin edgar johnson stamatopolous
king1010
@RudiSchuller: Benito Floro says Cyle Larin is the designated penalty taker for #canMNT.
tmcmurph
It was actually a very well struck ball. The keeper read it and made the play. I would hope in any close game it would go to whoever was best in practice that week or camp. Go with the hot hand.

I would hope in any close game it would go to whoever was best in practice that week or camp. Go with the hot hand. Well struck but the keeper seemed to have it read the whole way. I think Edgar wanted to take it because he just had a newborn and it may have been their first time seeing him play at home. Going forward if Johnson or Hutchinson is on the pitch it's their ball, if not I would go with Larin.
BrennanFan
http://www.thespec.com/sports-story/5680568-canada-shows-signs-of-promise-under-floro/ Maybe the penalty "controversy" was some kind of lesson to the rookie by the veterans deGuz and Edgar? Floro said after the game that Larin was supposed to take the penalty, after winning a competition in training. But Edgar stepped up instead. "It's hard to take a veteran off a penalty," the 20-year-old Larin said with a somewhat nervous laugh. "Maybe next game." That would be fine by de Guzman, who wants to see more hunger from his young strike force. "We need them to have a little bit of arrogance in that sense when it comes to PKs or free kicks." baulderdash77
It's good that a newspaper like the Hamilton Spectator is carrying more than just a match report for the game. They've been carrying a fair bit of soccer coverage lately. Anyways- I agree with De Guzman. Larin has to step up and show a bit of swagger and tell the other guys to get away from his PK's. Going forward we can't squander our PK's with anything other than our best scorers taking the shots, with all due respect to Edgar, Johnson and Hutchinson. Keegan
De Guzman should have been the one to step in there, he is the Captain. Obviously Cyle Larin isn't going to get into a fight with a veteran on the pitch, he high fived Edgar and acted mature about it. It's not like Edgar asked for the PK he came in and took it from Larin, not great leadership.
apbsmith
K I am really confused here..... if Larin was the designated PK kicker for both games. How come he did not take them in either game? Not complaining about Teibert scoring(1st game) but entire situation seems a bit odd. Maybe Larin just a classy dude and did not want to upset anyone, especially since he is relatively new to the squad. Hopefully he takes them in the future if he earned them.
