Professional soccer is coming back to Puerto Rico, and NBA star and entrepreneur Carmelo Anthony is leading the charge. Anthony announced Thursday at a press conference in Bayamón that his new club, Puerto Rico FC, will begin play in the NASL in the 2016 Fall Season.

Puerto Rico FC will be the NASL’s 13th club after the league recently added Miami FC on May 20. The club will play its home matches at the recently renovated Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium. Located in Bayamón, the 12,500-seat stadium serves as the home base for the Puerto Rico national team.

The club already have a stadium in place: the recently renovated Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón that also serves as the home base for the Puerto Rico national team.

But finding players and setting up trials to form a competitive squad to begin training next spring and then arrange friendlies before kicking off next autumn is proving all-consuming for Whitbread and Sillett, who have been living out of hotels since the summer on the mother of all road trips.

"We've been everywhere since the deal was announced," Whitbread adds. "We started in Puerto Rico and then we've come out to the East Coast and we've been to Tampa, Orlando, Charlston, Atlanta and now Fort Lauderdale.
