CDNFootballer
NASL Attendance Is Growing and Becoming Sustainable http://soccernewsday.com/usa/a/2101/nasl-attendance-is-growing-and-becoming-sustainable There are just three weeks left in the Spring Season, all NASL teams have had at least three home matches and this season, attendance has grown again. Since its inception as its own separate league in 2011, the attendance in the league has grown each season and so far 2015 has been on of the biggest jumps. After 40 games, the league has an average attendance of 6,335, over 800 more than the past season. Adding Jacksonville to the league has created a bump in the league’s attendance but many others have seen large growth as well.
Red and White
Speaking for Ottawa, we had one game with worrying attendance of just over 3000. But, our last two home games have seen over 5000 each, which is fairly solid. If we grow from a base of about 4500, it's sustainable.
BringBackTheBlizzard
Paid attendance is what matters on sustainability not announced attendance. The crowd numbers provided by soccer leagues in North America should always be treated with a healthy degree of skepticism, because you don't know how many freebie tickets (often including the no shows) are being used to pad the stats. Overall it looks like D2 level soccer has a future, but it remains to be seen if it will be the NASL's economic model that wins out.
hamiltonfan
@Red and White, is that B/E number of 4,500 sourced from the club or speculation. Interesting to note, would love to see the analysis with this number...sounds like a reasonable figure and doable from the club
Red and White
@Red and White, is that B/E number of 4,500 sourced from the club or speculation. Interesting to note, would love to see the analysis with this number...sounds like a reasonable figure and doable from the club It's speculation based on how attendances have fluctuated since last year. 'Good days' for the club seem to be 5000+ attendance, while 'poor days' are 3000 or even lower. It seems, when factors such as weather, match time, and competing events in town are favorable, 5000 is doable. So, building a base of 4500, and pushing that number up over time, seems like a good target for me.
CDNFootballer
Ottawa Fury FC is averaging 4377 fans per game so far this NASL Spring Season, coming on strong the last few matches with 5K+ crowds.
Kibby
I'm shocked about that last game... it seemed there was a hell of a lot more people at that Friday night game then the 5200 of the week before. I did see bus loads of groups getting disgorged, were those youth club tickets and do they count those?
Red and White
I agree that it seemed a lot more full than usual for that Friday night game. Only explanation I can think of is the 'bums in seats' total was close to announced attendance. Usually, announced tickets sold is higher than actual people in the stadium imo.
