USOC 2015

Recommended Posts

Some of the NASL clubs seem to have taken their opposition too lightly like Minnesota playing their B defenders which didn't work out too well for them.

If the Cosmos match vs NYC FC at home is anything like they're 3-0 domination of MLS's NY Red Bulls in last years USOC it should be fun. Atlanta has a good underdog team but the Red Bulls will likely be to much for them.

New York Red Bulls playing the Atlanta Silverbacks in the 2015 U.S. Open Cup

The New York Red Bulls will be hosting the Atlanta Silverbacks at Red Bull Arena on June 16th. The Silverbacks defeated Chattanooga FC, 2-1, in extra time in their third round match up.

The Silverbacks play in the North American Soccer League (the league right below Major League Soccer in the American Soccer Pyramid). They are currently 7th during the NASL Spring season with a 1-2-5 record. The Silverbacks are managed by Gary Smith who you may remember for leading the Colorado Rapids to the 2010 MLS Cup and League One club Stevenage to the brink of promotion in 2012.

NASL's Cosmos stake claim as best team in New York after eliminating NYCFC from U.S. Open Cup

http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/66/united-states/2015/06/18/12832882/cosmos-stake-claim-as-best-team-in-new-york-after

"With the scoreboard reading 2-0 in favor of visiting New York City FC, the New York Cosmos looked destined to see their U.S. Open Cup hopes dashed and their claim on superiority in the New York City soccer landscape erased. Hundreds of NYCFC fans clad in blue cheered loudly in their corner of Shuart Stadium, firmly believing their team would do what the New York Red Bulls could not do a year earlier, eliminate the Cosmos.

A stirring two-goal comeback later, the Cosmos capped one of the most dramatic matches of the year in American soccer with a penalty shootout rally, as goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer made three shootout saves and defender Hunter Gorskie converted the final penalty to lead the Cosmos to a shootout victory and place in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.

The match was loaded with meaning, from the battle between New York City's two professional soccer teams, to the clash between cubs from MLS and NASL. Despite the fact that both teams were missing star players (David Villa didn't play for NYCFC, Marco Senna was out injured for the Cosmos), the standing-room only crowd that filled the small stadium on the campus of Hofstra University were treated to a dream of a match in the first meeting between the Cosmos and NYCFC."
