"The 35-year-old is reported to be pushing for a two-year contract but the Super Lig club are offering no more than one year due to his age.

However, the Black Eagles wish for him to remain with the club even after he retires, as a coach.

Super Lig rivals Goztepe have been also in talks with the player, who have offered the player a contract however no details of the deal have been revealed."

At this point he should just hang it up and call it a career honestly as far as being a player for both his club and country. What he needs to do is go into coaching.

A player should quit when the club itself wants to sign him for another year?

Well be realistic how much longer does he really have to be playing as a player? The man is already 35

Umm tell that to Rafa Marquez. 39 years old and part of Mexico's squad for the world cup. Came on as a sub when Mexico happened to defeat some from Germany last week that is currently ranked #1 in the world. Not bad for an old geezer.

Yeah there is a big difference between Rafa Marquez and Atiba. Atiba is 35 right now but at the same time every player is different so that being said if he is still maintaining his health even at 35 then we will see how long he lasts.

It says in the post you quoted that bestikas want him to become a coach after one more year if that’s all their going to sign him for. So why would he not play another year before he becomes a coach at bestikas or move on to another club. It’s not like he doesn’t have the ability just some injury problems.

Yeah but if he is injury prone then all the more reason to call it a career because injuries catch up to the best of players even when they get as old as Atiba is. If he has been playing at a high level for a very long time especially until now, then all the more reason he should call it a career before he is forced into retirement.

Yes you are right.. at 35 Marquez was washed out and Atiba is still in the champions league. ?

You play as long as you (and a team willing to offer you a contract) feel you still can. After that its done forever, its a huge decision for  player.

Atiba is still playing at a level where he can contribute to both club and NT, why stop now? Personally, I hope/wish he keeps playing long enough to come home and retire in the CanPL.

Huh? Like I could get it if you said "maybe he should look to an easier league next year or retire from the national team and focus solely on league play" but this is just huh?

Yes he is 35 and has a recurring issue but he still is able to perform at a high level and make a lot of money as a player (much more than he would as a coach at this stage). And a fucking rival in the same league is interested in him and we've had MLS rumours (via Whitecaps) for the past 2 years.

In addition, why should he just become a coach? He might not be suited to it? He might not like the money? He might prefer a more exec role or broadcasting?
