Froese

I really like this player and think he is underrated. Maybe it's because Bustos is the one who gets more attention (because he has unbelievable talent on the ball), but I really really like Froese's game and think he'll continue ti get minutes throughout the season.

What I like about him is that he can be very direct and can shoot from distance. I also think that physically he can handle the MLS game, and of course, his ball control is decent too.

I never saw the last caps game, but in the highlights he collects the ball from a throw in on the left side of the field, dances around a few players as he cuts on to his right foot, and has a crack at goal.

It was very Hoilett-esque. Only REB offers that - you don't get that from Teibert or Osorio.

Anyways, I am rambling. Basically - I want this guy in our full national team if he can continue showing well with Vancouver. WCQ's might be too soon, but I really think this guy gives us something we are missing (plus he is physical and composed enough to slot into a DCM spot).

Thoughts?

If he keeps playing regular minutes, we could see him with the full NT. He's very versatile. I think he can play every position in the midfield.

I also like that he can have a go from distance.  I just posted in the MLS Whitecaps thread about how I wish Teibert would develop his shooting game.  I don't think you can be a top level central midfielder if you can't have a go from distance and that skill makes me more hopeful for youths like Froese and Piette to reach the top at the central midfielder position.

Froese is going to have a big role to play with Canada this year whether that is just with the U23 team or with the men's team as well.

I was actually thinking about your Tiebert post when I wrote that. That is a major flaw in not only his game, but also Osorio's. Even Hutchinson cannot strike a ball well from distance, despite being a very good midfielder. So, I wouldn't go as far as saying Teibert won't be an elite midfielder unless he develops this, but I will say we need more players with this skill set.

Aside from Froese, Piette and (in particular) Will Johnson come to mind as midfielders who can really put their laces through the ball.

What I like more about Froese more than Piette is that he's so much more dynamic. He can play in the middle, attack from out wide, get stuck in the challenge. For me, he can do everything Piette does centrally (as we have seen at the U-20 and U-17 level), PLUS he can run at defenders out on the flanks.

Kianz has a long way to go before he will have a major impact on the national team or Whitecaps.

But I have seen all of his appearances with the Whitecaps so far and he has not at all looked out of place. He makes runs and attacks defenders, and with some more polish may convert those into real chances. I would say he is a good year or two away from legitimately being called up to the senior team. And he needs a full season of MLS play - even part-time play.

Besides missing players who can shoot from outside the 18, we are also short on players who attack and take on a defender. Teibert - for all his strengths - isn't really able to beat defenders one-on-one. He doesn't have the speed or elusiveness.

Also looking forward to seeing what Bustos can do at the MLS level.

That is the thing, this level isn't over his head. Robinson isn't afraid to send him out there and other players aren't afraid to give him the ball. He's turning 19 in a few days, getting a couple of starts this season and maybe becoming a regular at age 20 would be a perfect pathway for him.

I don't agree with Teibert. I hink he does have a decent shot from distance. Does he use it often enough? No but he has the technique for it.
