Congratulations to MS. Longshot to make the final squad, but it's his dream. Passionate player towards his homeland (and originally, mine). I said long ago he wouldn't play for us. Playing for Canada wouldn't be right.

I want to say wish some young Canadians felt the same, but we benefit as much as we suffer.

Northern Ireland defeated Belarus 3- 0 last night.

Smith was not included in the 22 player gameday lineup.
The squad was trimmed from 28 to 23 players today.

Michael Smith has been cut from the final list and will not being going to the EUROs.

Next cap-tie moment: WCQ in Prague vs the Czech Republic Sunday September 4th.

More confirmation of his ties to Canada (in the last 48hrs!):

After starting the season with a minor injury, he lost his place for a couple games because his replacement Hayden White was in good form. Made his way back into the starting 11 for the past three games including the 5-1 win vs Millwall and the 3-1 loss to Swansea.

More importantly, Smith has been called into the 23-man squad for Northern Ireland vs Czech Republic in Prague on Sept 4th.

Smith has been called as part of Northern Ireland's squad vs San Marino (home) and Germany (away).

Northern Ireland called a 24-man squad as per their link.
Then Craig Cathcart & Liam Boyce got injured, so the coach called Aaron Hughes and Paul Paton instead.

So for their FIFA WCQ vs San Marino they had to cut that down to a 23-man squad as per FIFA rules:

So who didn't dress vs San Marino today; the "24th man out" so to speak?
It was Michael Smith it seems. His name doesn't appear

Obviously still not cap-tied. Next possible moment is Tuesday vs Germany.

Michael Smith was NOT called into the 25-man Northern Ireland squad for their WCQ against Azerbaijan and a friendly against Croatia.

Since he wasn't called for Northern Ireland, he played in League 1 today. Quite the goal to win the game for The Posh 1-0 vs Bolton. Showed his quality.

Next cap-tie moment would be when WCQs resume on March 26th.

Michael Smith was NOT called up by Northern Ireland for their WCQ against Norway this month. In their 24-man squad, Lee Hodson, Conor McLaughlin (and possibly Aaron Hughes) have kept the right-back role theirs.

At this point our right-back spot is a revolving door. He'd claim it. He'd be a starter.

Admittedly never seen this guy play, but he plays in English League 1. I'm not sure he's solve the issue.
