lazlo_80
Just thinking about this, would this be the first time we have a chance to lineup a fully professional lineup for the U23s? This is by no means a researched list, just off the top of my head we could have something like... Larin Boakai Petrasso Piette Aleman Aird Adekugbe Henry Gasparotto James Carducci And if I'm not mistaken a pro bench spot for every position too. For those that have been here longer than me, would this be the first time we've had a fully pro U23 team?

shamrock
With the USL teams in play, you can expect a lot more pro's. I'd be very surprised if Babouli wasn't included. Also, Petrasso apparently suffered an season-ending injury. He might be better in the summer, but probably not fit (same goes for Henry).

Barthez-Battalion
Well, on the right side you can throw in Serban (who is a likely starter) or even Johnny Grant who Floro loves. The team will be professional, and will be missing some good players since the roster is only 18. You should also throw Mauro and Misik from Ottawa in the mix. If both see regular minutes with Ottawa no reason for them not to be in Pan Am squad. The one issue with us being poor is that the Pan Am games is the only place where we can evaluate these players. Would be better to have actual camps to gauge all possible players.
Soccerpro
This team doesn't look much different than our u20 which bombed out of qualifying. Nothing to get too excited about. Especially with only two spots up for grabs.
shamrock
You're right, in October they will probably be ready to go. Of course, there wil be other absences (as ever).

lazlo_80
The team I posted was by no means what I think or have any idea of how it'll look. Was just making the point that this is the first time in my memory at least where every position could be taken by a professional, which has to be a sign of progress. If it looks like the u20 team it's because they were fresher in my mind. I'm sure there's better options for some positions than what I posted. Was simply making the point about fielding pros. Unnamed Trialist
Some Spanish guy... Yup, that was announced from day one from what I recall. I think it is damn smart, he leaves u-20 to others, brings in a lot of young players into the senior camps so they know and learn the system, and then he steps in as their coach for the Olympic qualifying run. I am not 100% sure Floro is a great modern coach, I think he is outdated in many ways, but he does things he has thought through, and he is doing things slowly trusting that the CSA is behind him. The progress is clear, very slow, and somewhat encouraging.
Keegan
Our last U23 team could have been all professional if we wanted it to be IIRC. But it won't and shouldn't be... we still have talents coming through NCAA, it's not like you're going to leave off the next Cyle Larin in favour of the next Keith Makubuya simply because he has a pro contract. I think that's where the Americans went wrong last time around.

xman14
I know he's become a poster boy for Canada youth teams, but I'm hesitant to see Carducci have the #1 jersey. While he's recently been hurt, his past performances in CONCACAF left much to be desired. I hope for his sake that he finds meaningful minutes with WFC2, but I think someone else could easily stage the #1 shirt. Possibilities: - Milton, playing youth ball for Blackpool, been on the bench numerous times in Championships matches - Irving, All-American for Kentucky - Wirth, at OSU, can't forget his major gaff but he also showed much potential - Melvin, recent call up to Men's team, has put together a few decent seasons at Wilmington - Crepeau, former u17 starter still at Impact
aloyol
Let's not forget Roberts who just earned his first MNT cap after being part of 2-3 MNT camps. If that's any indication, it seems Floro is rating Roberts over the other guys.

Lord Bob
Carducci put on a show at the U-17 World Cup and I can tell you first-hand that, while he has a lot of work to do, he's a fine shot-stopper. I wouldn't worry about him at all. That said, it would be fantastic to see Callum Irving get at least a look. He seems to have fallen off the radar a little bit since leaving the Whitecaps Residency but the results are still there. (I suspect the Hombre is right and it's Roberts's job to lose, though; that might not be a bad thing.)

Vince193
Looking at the pool, it doesn't look like any of the players who would be a prominent aren't pros. I don't know how it works in Germany but is someone like Stanese considered a pro?
shamrock
Technically I think so. There are financial and technical requirements for teams in the Regionalligas. Coaches have to be A-licenced and stadiums have to have over 5000 capacity. Wether or not all the players are getting paid, I'm not sure. Probably a mix of pro, semipro and amateur players.
