In a World where all Canadian players are available for selection. Who would you call for your 23 man roster for this years Gold Cup.

My starting XI:

jgtp1e.jpg

Subs (7):

GK | Hirschfeld

DF | Jackovic

DF | Ledgerwood

MF | de Guzman

MF | Finlay
FW | M. Haber

FW | Ricketts

Reserves (5):

GK | Roberts

DF | Morgan

MF | Teibert

MF | Pacheco

FW | Edwini-Bonsu

Didn't include some youth fringe players as I expect alot will be called for the U22 Pan Am, and end of the year Olympic Qualifying.

I like that one dude.

I'd say, as you mentioned, "Dream Team":

-------------------Cavallini-----------------
Hoilett------------------------------Teibert
--------------------Osorio-------------------
----------Hutchinson--Johnson----------
De Jong----Vitoria----Henry-----Edgar
-------------------Borjan-------------------

Pretty slick looking set of wingers & midfielders

My current 23-man pool, from which to choose a 20-man roster:

GK | Borjan, Hirschfeld, Stamatopoulos (=3)

DF | Edgar, Henry, Hainault, deJong, Jakovic, Straith, Ledgerwood, Ouimette (=8)

CM | Hutchinson, deGuzman, Pacheco, Osorio, Bekker, Piette (=6)

FW | Ricketts, Teibert, Issey NF, M. Haber, S. Jackson, REB (=6)

* I didn't include any of the fence-sitters (including Will Johnson or Cavallini), until they make themselves available for pre-tournament friendlies.

* I also didn't include any of the kiddies/U-20's, although I suspect that a few will be included by Floro ("future potential" is just too much of a wildcard to predict).

That line up would really give us an excellent chance of qualifying. I'd find a way to work Teibert in there. Probably swap him in for Finlay, because I think Hoilett, Akindele and Vitoria have some level of interest in suiting up for us - whereas Finlay has never really indicated he'd like to play for Canada, nor does he identify as Canadian. Aside from that, and maybe working in Morgan (or Tissot/Adekugbe) in as de Jong's cover, that looks really really solid!

I wouldn't consider will johnson a fence sitter. He's had 2 children and broke his leg. I believe he'll be there when healthy.

Also with regard to the OP. Love the lineup. I'd bump teibert up to at least the bench and rank stamatopolous as our number 2.

Why is Will Johnson on the (left) wing?

If he plays for Canada, I would be surprised if Finlay were not a starter. Between not getting a January call and with Darlington Nagbe looking good so far, I would suspect Canada is in his near future.

I would go with:

                    Borjan

    Edgar-Henry-Vittoria-DeJong

            Johnson--Hutchinson

Finlay--------Osorio-------Hoilett/Teibert

                   Akindele

Osorio in the pocket?  Oye... there's a loud vote of confidense.

And not to throw darts but you're left side looks a bit squishy on the defending.  Not a big issue if you can rely on some organization and ball winning in front of that back 4 but, I don't think you can.

Drop that Vitoria for Hainault and you can maybe surrender the perimeter if you have to.

Hey king1010 and baulderdash77:  Fair comments regarding Will Johnson. Reading back, my phrasing could have been more tactful. My point was simply that (due to the broken leg, new family and not making himself available to a new coach for a good year before the leg injury) there is a very good possibility that we won't see Will at all this Summer. I would love to be proven wrong on that (I certainly have nothing against him) but, until I see him available for NT duty again, I generally don't get excited to include him in any projected roster. The roster due out later this week should help answer a lot of these questions for us. Looking forward to that. Cheers!

Fair comment I guess.  BTW Will Johnson is projected to get back on the pitch around the 2nd week of April from that injury.  He should be able to be ready for the Gold Cup but he won't be on next weeks roster and I expect he'll wear the armband for us.

If hes back 2nd week of April he should be ready for WCQ in June. Even before the Gold Cup. Good to hear the recovery is progressing well.

Why? WJ had very good reason to miss the games/camps he did. It's quite the opposite, there's actually no reason to believe he won't be playing in WCQ and GC matches. This was the captain of our team at the last GC, he's always be very proud to play for Canada.

I want to believe you are right, but at the end of the day, he hasn't played for Canada since the last Gold Cup.

I guess you're right, if you blindly ignore all the facts then the only explanation is that he's some how, for some reason had a complete 180 degree turn of heart and will never play for Canada again.

WJ may decide to retire from international football but until it's official it drives me nuts when people here speculate about how a player feels or what they're thinking by reading between the lines.

I have no idea what you are talking about.  It's all we have left to do as none of the media are asking our players these pertinent questions.  Someone needs to get off their ass and ask Will Johnson why he hasn't suited up for Canada recently.  Why does he hate Canada so much?  While he's at it, we should ask Atiba why he hates Canada so much too?  Him repeatedly turning down the call for both Iceland and Guatemala/PR is the only reason I can come up with to explain why he hasn't played a competitive match for Canada in all of 2015.  I was planning on traveling to catch the Gold Cup games to watch him play, but now I'm going to cancel my plans because I'm assuming he's going to refuse that call up as well.
