Soccerpro
Im not feeling optimistic. The Ticos are on a roll and the game is being played in the middle of the day in the hot sun with a Canadian squad that hasn't been rotated. Hope I'm wrong. IceCreamMan
Commentator is just loving Costa rica but I think were pretty unlucky to be down. Chances have been pretty even.
spitfire
Unlucky to be down? Seriously? Firstly the shape is all wrong AGAIN. The distance between the midfeld and strikers is enormous, there is no link up play at all. We are relying on the skill of Tabla and Sagno to carry the game, too many misplaced paces and panicking in possession. Need composure on the ball and sustained possession not long ball central...keeper needs to be more confident as well..but what do I know... there is still time if they can turn it around and put a few passes together.. Levi Oakey
Can we not change our shape a little bit? Frustrating to see us refuse to change style even when down, replacing like for like.
Keegan
We seem gassed. We don't have the energy to play as a team, everyone is hoping they get the perfect pass and not working to defend or attack as a team.

Well it's all moot now but was more a comment that the Costa Rica goals were a bit out of no where. We certainly weren't playing great but it easily could have been 0-0 or maybe 1-0 Costa Rica. In a game with few chances they converted we didn't. It wasn't as bad as the commentator suggested.

Soccerpro
It seems like mentally, our teams just aren't up for big games. Not rotating the squad was a gamble that hasn't payed off for Flemming as our players were gassed against Panama and seem to be again today. Barthez-Battalion
I hope there are people in the CSA asking questions about our U17 and U20 programs. But I doubt it.
Soccerpro
I hope there are people in the CSA asking questions about our U17 and U20 programs. But I doubt it. Flemming qualified for the last two u17 world cups and was a game away from qualifying this time. Do you think our country is so fantastic at soccer that we should never miss a qualification? I won't stick my neck out for anyone involved with the u20s because no one has a track record of success associated with that program.
TFC07
Remember that before this tournament, no one excepted this group would have qualify for World Cup Under 17 based on their friendlies. So I am not mad about this group not qualifying, but I am surprise that they were close though. Overall, Flemming isn't issue and he deserves to remain head coach for next U-17 campaign. Under 20 in the other hand is a problem and we need to find someone with reasonable track record to run our Under 20 program. We can't afford to hire another amateur coach to run Under 20 in the next campaign.

Levi Oakey
Yeah, it was disappointing to lose, but not the end of the world. If this squad of U17's qualifies for the U20's, no one will ask questions. Last two cycle's the U17s have made the World Cup while the U20s have failed to. There were some bright spots but this kind of tournament is difficult, can easily get knocked out with one bad result, which occurred against Panama. Costa Rica was going to be a tough match up, and we ended up losing on two corners.
El Hombre
Wow. That is awful. No wonder everybody isn't excepting this current U-17 team to qualify World Cup U-17 this time around. In came out on the U-17 press conference (via Two Solitudes) that Sean Fleming didn't have the chance to scout the Impact youth teams so he wasn't familiar with the players!? What the hell else is he doing? That is shocking and pretty close to a fire-able offence given that this level is about getting the best players in the system. Well we now have an excuse to get rid of Fleming once U-17 team is eliminated. Based on the above comments when the roster was released, you'd think people here would be a little more positive that the team made it as far as they did. Gian-Luca
Disappointing though that fitness seems to have been an issue. I thought the 3-2 scoreline in the group stage flattered Costa Rica since they scored on some incredible gaffes & a foul that was outside the box but given as a PK. So to lose 3-0 to the same team a number of games later tells us something.
Barthez-Battalion
I'm not a particular optimistic person, but Simon Fudge is probably the most negative man in Canadian soccer, more so than DeVos.
Trillium
Flemings players at U17 go on to form the core of the U20 program. If we just miss at u17 and miss by miles at U20, which program is not doing its job ? The base needs to be properly prepared, if the U17 group is wrong but shows well because of athleticism, and we get killed at U20 because we have no players of vision or technical skill the failure is at the U17 level of selection and team training. I suspect Mr. Fleming is choosing horses to try to win at U17 and not selecting players of potential to win at U20 and become professionals. Who from the U17 pool right now do you think is pro material ?

Who from the U17 pool right now do you think is pro material ? If that were the case then there should be a bunch of players in the '94 and '96 age groups that were passed over for the U17's and have since shown themselves to be obvious pro prospects. Who are those players?
