Obinna
Was just snooping and found these two rosters from GC 2011. One is from Canada and one is from Costa Rica. Four years on and the change of where players play their club ball is astonishing! Our roster looks stacked on paper and Costa Rica look noticeably weaker than us, despite a lack of player turnover for both teams! Anyways, I am fascinated... What happened? These are largely the same groups! Anyways... Here are the highlights for me: Simeon Jackson - Norwich City (EPL) -> Coventry City (league one) Rob Friend - Hertha Berlin (Bundesliga) -> Retired due to injury Julian de Guzman (TFC), Dwayne de Rosario (NYRB) - > Out of contract Klukowski Turkish Super Lig -> Strange retirement JBB (German 4th division) and Peters (Championship -> Could no longer make it as professionals. wow. On the other side of the coin... Navas went from Spanish 3rd tier to Real Madrid Campbell went from Saprissa to Real Sociedad in La Liga (on loan from Arsenal) Oviedo went from Copenhagen to Everton. Diaz went from Club Brugges to the Bundesliga Gamboa went from Norway to West Brom Canada Goalkeepers: Lars Hirschfeld (Valerenga/NOR) , Milan Borjan (SK Rad/SVK), Haidar Al-Shaibani (Nimes Olympique/FRA) Defenders: Nikolas Ledgerwood (SV Wehen Wiesbaden/GER), Michael Klukowski (Ankaragücü/TUR), Kevin McKenna (Koln/GER), Andre Hainault (Houston Dynamo/USA), Terence Dunfield (Vancouver Whitecaps), Will Johnson (Real Salt Lake/USA), Dejan Jakovic (D.C. United/USA), Marcel de Jong (Augsburg/GER), Jaime Peters (Ipswich Town/ENG) Midfielders: Julian de Guzman (Toronto FC), Josh Simpson (Manisaspor/TUR), Pedro Pacheco (Santa Clara/POR), Atiba Hutchinson (PSV Eindhoven/HOL), Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault (SC Preußen Münster/GER), Issey Nakajima-Farran (Horsens/DEN) Forwards: Rob Friend (Hertha Berlin), Ali Gerba (Impact Montreal), Tosaint Ricketts (Politehnica Timişoara/ROM), Simeon Jackson (Norwich City/ENG), Dwayne De Rosario (New York Red Bulls/USA) Costa Rica Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas (Albacete/SPA), Leonel Moreira (Herediano), Donny Grant (San Carlos) Defenders: Jhonny Acosta (Liga Deportiva Alajuelense), Jose Salvatierra (Liga Deportiva Alajuelense), Oscar Duarte (Saprissa), Dennis Marshall (Aalborg/DEN), Junior Diaz (Club Brugges/BEL), Bryan Oviedo (FC Copenhagen/DEN), Heiner Mora (Santos de Guapiles), Christian Gamboa (Fredrikstad/NOR) Midfielders: Celso Borges (Fredrikstad/NOR), David Guzman (Saprissa), Jose Cubero (Herediano), Allen Guevara (Liga Deportiva Alajuelense), Christian Bolanos (FC Copenhagen/DEN) Forwards: Diego Madrigal (Cerro Porteno/POR), Joel Campbell (Saprissa), Marco Urena (Kuban Krasnodar/RUS), Bryan Ruiz (FC Twente/HOL), Randall Brenes (Brujas), Alvaro Saborio (Real Salt Lake/USA), Josue Martinez (Saprissa)
Barthez-Battalion
To be fair, our GG has ended with a major fizzle while Costa Rica at the point was only starting to enter theirs. Also what happened to Hainault? Why did he leave Houston?

Also what happened to Hainault? Why did he leave Houston? Hainault wanted to give Europe a shot. Plays for Aalen? in 2 Bundesliga

shermanator
I remember watching the Panama / Canada game from my hotel in Houston and cussing real loud when Panama equalized. Golden generation? Ha! This was a team that couldn't score on Guadaloupe from open play. Simeon Jackson was never a Premier League quality player IMO. Was tremendous in the season they won promotion, but was nothing more than an occasional sub after. Don't think he ever recovered from that, to be honest. It's weird to see some of the regulars (Ricketts, Borjan, Edgar) with so few caps!
