Hutch and his deal in Turkey

So no transfer for Hutch during the break - and judging by comments on his twitter account from his fans, there is some pressure on him to sign a new deal to keep him at Besiktas.  Seems to be another PSV situation where rumors were just that - rumors.  Does he take a chance to leave on a free in the summer, or does he sign a deal to keep him in Turkey.  He does seem to be in a preferred position there, at least.

Can we assume that the window of seeing Hutch in the Premiership is closing fast?

Anyone have any insight?

I thought that Hutch in the Premiership was dead and I said previously that Hutch to West Ham was only rumoured because West Ham were after a Canadian international in Eastern Europe and they assumed it was Hutch because he's our best player and people didn't know that Henry was owned by an Eastern European team. If Hutch goes somewhere else it won't be in England.

It was posted here that he signed a 1 year deal with an option for 3/4 years.  To me this clearly says that Hutchinson likes Besiktas but it open to another deal and it just didn't come around this time.

He'll wait to see if he gets an MLS or EPL offer for 2016 and if not I'm sure he has a nice deal with Besiktas.

Ya, he's probably making a pretty penny at Beisktas starting in his preferred position and near top of the table while in Europe League. No need to jump ship unless a REALLY good offer comes.

Also Besiktas is set to move into their impressive new home next year so it could be an added incentive to stay with the club.

He'll probably stay there for another 2 years then try to cash out and get a 2 or 3 year DP deal in MLS. He did say he would love finishing his career in Toronto. And he deserves the money.

offering a 34 yr old Hutch DP money is just silly, esp for TFC

That was his old deal, his new one is probably over 2M CAD per year.

It amazes me at how overpaid North American athletes are. Hockey players making 2 to 12 million a year. B Ball players at 20 mill a year. Baseball players at 30 mill a year. Obviously the highest paid, but still on average their salaries are so much higher.

I don't think it is fair to compare Turkish league salaries with NBA or NHL, since the latter two are the best leagues in their sport, while MLB and NFL are sports few other rich countries play.

Well it's all relative...

The top athletes in those sports and the top althetes in soccer have comparable salaries. Messi vs Crosby, Ronaldo vs Lebron James, etc.

The difference is that there are so many leagues in our sport, so comparisons are often difficult. EPL=NHL, Championship=AHL. Salary wise they are equals i'd imagine...

Exactly.  The NHL is the top 30 clubs so you could pick out the top 30 paid teams in world footy and have a pretty comparable salary structure.

Still they make more than all Serie A players and by a large margin. Giovinco coming to Toronto is the highest paid italian at 7 mil a year plus bonuses and image rights.(comes out to just more than De Rossi 6.5 mill euro a year which is the highest salary in serie a) Less than all 4 major sports leagues in North America. Italian coach Conte said he can see many players coming to North America because they just pay athletes so much more.

All these salaries are in Euros.

Championship Salary is much higher than AHL. AHL contracts are usually in the 100k to 150K range in dollars. Championship avg is 300k to 500k in pounds.

Also this source says the Turkish league is the 9th highest paying soccer league in the world. Serie A is 3rd.

It seems North America over pays their top leagues and under pays their lesser leagues.

I suppose if you look at this report the yearly salaries are a but more comparable between North America and Europe. However, Keep in mind a soccer season can be as long as 10 months where an NFL NHL or NBA season can be as short as 6 months. And north american players get bonuses for playoff appearances.

All of the above salaries are after taxes. In North America we report salaries pre-tax.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hutchinson would look great in Vancouver as a reserve behind Pedro Morales, Matias Laba, Gershon Koffie, Nico Mezquida, that new Honduran kid, the guy from Liberia who cleans the Coke machine, and a Subbuteo figure that was made in China. #WhitecapsHateCanada
