Toje
The club was thinking about moving over to League 1 Ontario, but in the end decided to stay with the PDL for the 2015 season. http://www.lfpress.com/2015/01/21/fc-london-decides-to-stay-with-pdl

BringBackTheBlizzard
That's not what the article says: “Again, from our perspective it was really a second opportunity to look at things,” Campbell said. “Are we doing the right thing? We’ll probably re-evaluate that again at the end of this year.”
shamrock
I know that is not what it said, it's my interpretation of it.
CDNFootballer
For League 1 Ontario to succeed they need teams like this and TFC Academy mandated into the league imho.
BringBackTheBlizzard
What they really needed was to get the best and least corrupt of the CSL franchises to jump ship and embrace the L1O model. In the absence of that, there's no way they should be adding more GTA teams at this point.
Jason
For League 1 Ontario to succeed they need teams like this and TFC Academy mandated into the league imho. It would be ideal if those teams went willingly into L1O, because it seems like a better opportunity. I am never a fan of forcing a team to do something it doesn't want to do. From the sounds of things, L1O is on the right track but maybe isn't quite there yet. And it sounds like FCL is considering it. Also, I agree that the better CSL clubs would do well to move. From their perspective, I would rather play in a sanctioned league. I see no upside in playing in an outlaw league. Jason
BringBackTheBlizzard
Think we need to be realistic about what L1O is at this point. It's looking more and more like an elite amateur youth league for the GTA. It had grander ideas than that, but they haven't come to fruition. If there's no way to get the better CSL outfits on board and achieve a level of competition that TFC Academy and FC London actually want to be part of, then PDL is still the better way to go outside the GTA, because they have found a model that makes longer distance travel work on a low budget. shamrock
I don't understand what the fuss is about L1 being a GTA based league. As if any league in Ontario in any sport isn't going to be a GTA-based league. It is the core of te province. Any possible BC league is going to based in and around Van, I really don't see a problem in that nor would it be surprising. And talking about PDL and distances, jeez did you ever look at those schedules? They are ridiculous, playing twice in a weekend against the same opponent, anyone can make it cheap for clubs like that. Of course I'd agree with anyone saying that it would be great if some f the older clubs from the CSL would join L1 and I think they will in time. There has to be a core of clubs based around Vancouver and Toronto at this level. The problem as I see it is making sure that the rest of the Province in each case is not ignored. It is like Natinal team games, I accept that BMO field will get most of the games but it would be good for the game if they played other venues occasionally. These leagues should have explicit goals for number of teams and, like NASL set guidelines. For example, L1O could say thay want to be at 16 teams by 2020 with no more than 60% of those in the GTA. (Totally ridiculous numbers but you get the idea.)
