Straith started in an exhibition game in Turkey between the team he is trailing for, Wacker Innsbruck and Altach. No info on how long he played but Innsbruck lost 5-2 to Altach who are the 3rd place team in the Austrian Bundesliga currently. He seems to have played as a defender.

Ridiculous. Wonder what they're going to do come olympic qualifying. Feel bad and release him or cement their hate for Canada.

Also great start for Edgar. goes 86 mins in a 1-0 win. Interesting that he was in the midfield.

In article in the Birmingham Mail (which I am to lazy to link to) the coach mentioned that Edgar saw himself more as a midfielder, and that this was part of the reason for the loan, since Birm City are already deep in midfield.

Also makes the blues move for a new CB less of a diss on Edgar.

Has he not been a centre back for his whole career? Now he sees himself as a midfielder?

What does this mean for Canada, would it be better to have him in the mid and have a CB pairing of 2 of Jakovic Hainault Henry?

I've read on Huddersfield fan forum edgar had a good, though limited, debut. He was a good shield and fans felt he is an option for away games in dm, but offered little on the ball and his movement was that of a CB playing in midfield.

Another fan also said his mate is a brummy and he many believed Edgar was birmingham's 2nd best CB, so the loan seemed a strange move for the club.

What led to Attakora's downfall? When Winter came on board, suddenly Attackora had 'personal problems'. He had so much promise before that time. Ever since, he's been a train wreck.

I was listening to an ep of Two Solitudes and Rollins and Laramee mentioned that back in the day when TFC first got going there was a quota of Canadians. One problem was that a lot of the Canadian players knew they could hold up the club for money because TFC needed to fill that quota. I'm guessing when TFC called Nana's bluff on contract talks he learned no one really wanted him.

No. The higher quota was gone by 2009. Nana was still playing solid through the 2010 season.

IIRC...Winter came in and Nana was less favoured, because he never thrived in his system. More specifically, he never had the skill and technique required to keep the ball on the deck. The long ball stuff was just not a good fit for the way that team was set up to play.

So, he was traded and we all looked forward to a fresh start for him, but he had a concussion at SJ and that made cracking the line up there that much more challenging.

Then, he went to Finland, and that is where I get lost. I don't know how he never made an impact in such a weak, weak, league. He even had trials with clubs in 2.Bundesliga (Union Berlin?) And the SPL, before he signed in Finland. Anyways, that was followed up with a fruitless second spell in California. DC we all know about. And now this next NASL chapter is where we hope he rights the ship.

Yes, Winter wrote Attakora off right away as not being a fit for his system... then he picked up Andy Iro..  What a joke Winter was.

Yeah cause afterwards Nana went off to show him how wrong he was. Even someone said he was still playing regularly in 2010. Well, with lot's of succes right? Come on let's face it, he should be lucky if Cosmos were to sign him.

Nana struggled afterwards in his career and also had some bad luck with injuries. However, what showed that Winter was wrong is how bad TFC and TFC's defence were under Winter. For Winter to have been right he would have had to improve the defence over what they had when Nana was starting. Nana has his flaws but up to Winter's arrival had also showed he could be a solid player in the right system but that system was certainly not the system that Winter tried to impose on TFC. Had TFC hired a competent coach who could have taken the players they had and determine the best system for them to play while slowly adding complementary players and helping Nana correct the flaws in his play I think Nana could have developed into a very good player. Instead he changed teams (which is risky for any player) and through a combination of bad luck and not being in good situations with various teams his career stalled.

The whole team was shambles, not just the defense. I agree that Winter was't the man. His biggest flaw was not understanding the Cap IMO. If Ajax has a weak position, they buy the best (or second best) option in the league. I don't the style was a problem per se as Sporting KC has played a similar style, so it s possible, just not overnight.

But still, you can say bad luck all you want, Attakora hasn't pulled it off at any club he went to after TFC. To me, that says he just hasn't got what it takes at that level. It was't just Winter who didn't rate him, it was all of te coaches afterwards. Except maybe in Finland (second division was it, no?)

Well he was rated enough for two US clubs to use international spots on him.  It wasn't simply that he wasn't good enough, sure he's not a bonafide star but he also has had some bad concussion issues to deal with and like many young athletes it has stalled and potentially ruined his career.  Up until the point he suffered the concussion he was actually starting for San Jose and was earning high praise for the few appearances he had before his collision with Henry against TFC.

As Grizzly said he showed he could be a solid player in the right system, not a stand out but not out of place none the less.  It's unfortunate what has happened to him but there are multiple factors and of course like any player in MLS he has flaws to his game.
