An Observer
We can start the yelling and screaming again as it looks like Alex Pena from TFC is going to a Uruguay U17 camp. His older brother just tweeted the following: @Pena_Gaucho: I want to wish my brother Alexander Pena good luck with the under 17 Uruguayan National team. Kill it down there. Vamos Uruguay carajo. I believe Alex has already suited up for our Canadian youth teams. I am hesitant to post this after the Bustos craziness but I figure it will come out anyway. Ivan
Was wondering why he wasn't called up lately after he and Nicholas Osorio seemed to light up the early U17 camps. Come to think of it, neither has been at the more recent camps. Hmmmm.
king1010
if his brother is so proud he should move to Uruguay. Now that I see his twitter I actually played youth club soccer against him. He went on to have a decent strike rate at York U. He's now the head technical director at woodbridge soccer club. Nice to see that woodbridge is developing players for the Uruguyan national team. Contemplating responding to his tweet with a sarcastic "proud canadian" I'm also thinking of sending an E mail to woodbridge soccer club saying how dissapointing it is that their technical director is encouraging players to defect. I'm pretty sure the Osorios are Colombian. And if you feel that strongly you should send an e-mail. You also should tell the CSA about this. doubt they'd be thrilled knowing one of their coaches in a development league are encouraging players to defect. His older brother was one of the alleged little arrogant shits who was on the inaugural TFC Academy team and acted like he was a rock star. Go ahead and send the text and email and while you're at it send one to TFC as well - in case they don't know one of their own is going to defect - that way they can talk to the kid and/or give him the boot. Greatest Cockney Rip Off
Is it an ubran myth or did TFC not require their academy players to commit to Canada in order to play in their academy? Either way, still another annoying situation. After the high of watching the U20s this week, this really makes me upset. Especially since he has taken resources from our program playing at the u15 level.

king1010
My apologies he is the "head technical trainer" at the Vaughn soccer club. I will be sending an E mail voicing my displeasure to the Vaughn SC, TFC, and CSA that Canadian funds are being used to support a Canadian who has used our system as a stepping stone to the Uruguayan Youth program. I'd invite others to do the same. Id argue that the club is not fulfilling its objective in "helping individuals develop character as resourceful and responsible members of their community" Nor as an affiliated member, are they in line with the objectives of the OSA. Article 3: OBJECTIVES The Club shall have the following objectives: 1. To promote and develop the game of soccer within its boundaries. 2. To help individuals to develop their character as resourceful and responsible members of their community by providing opportunities, through the game of soccer, for their mental, physical, social and leadership development. Article 5: AFFILIATIONS The Club shall be a Member of the Ontario Soccer Association, the York Region Soccer Association, and shall follow the published rules of the District Association and the Ontario Soccer Association, hereinafter referred to as the O.S.A. The Club is subject to the published rules in declining order of authority of the following bodies to which it is affiliated: 1. The O.S.A. 2. York Region Soccer Association 3. jpg75
Everyone here needs to stop getting so riled up. It's getting tiring. These things are going to happen. Stop having meltdowns on internet message boards. Good luck to Alex Pena, I hope he goes to the World Cup some day with Uruguay and can inspire other young Canadians to follow in his footsteps the way Owen Hargreaves did before him. Stop having meltdowns on internet message boards. whats getting tiring is the defects. No meltdown here. Just voicing displeasure to the CSA and TFC academy. Well within our boundary. Also just because "these things are going to happen" doesn't mean we should just sit on our hands and accept it without bringing it to the attention of the relevant parties involved. If we sit back and act complacent people at the TFC academy will continue to shrug their shoulders when this happens. If we voice our displeasure there would be more pressure to do something about it. TFC Academy Vision and Values 3. Player Development Identify, recruit, train, develop players in the Toronto FC approach and style of play A systematic approach that starts at the earliest age of the Academy up to the First Team A competitive, age-appropriate system to enhance Canadian youth development The best training facilities, scouting, coaching and education to develop professional footballers and leaders

Ferreira left the club in Aug. 2008 for FC Porto and Portugal, and Raheem Taylor-Parkes left for IMG Academy and USA last year.

If he wants to play for Uruguay thats disappointing as he has already used Canadian resources to get there. But now that he has chosen to attend an U17 camp for them there is no reason for CDN resources to further support the development of a player who has chosen to represent another country
TFC07
I believe that is still policy. It will be interesting to see if current TFC run by Americans will follow through the policy. Old TFC club (after Mo Johnson era) despite awful on-field product, took pride in developing Canadian players and wouldn't have tolerate with this crap. Keegan
The CSA needs to flex some muscle and excercise every bit of power they have. Seriously, be absolute assholes. What power does CSA have? Can they send a notice to Vaughn SC saying that they will be suspended/fined due to comments by their TD that are against CSA policy?

JimmyJames
Kids who do this should be sued by the appropriate FA in order to recoup the funds wasted on them...don't they sign some sort of contract when they join a youth club?

With TFC, yes there's a "commitment" letter that these kids sign, but however, TFC current management might look other way when comes to this kind of stuff since their commitment or ties to Canadian soccer isn't there compare to previous TFC management. king1010
So his brother has tweeted me back saying that when he was called to canada he scored goals and played well. He said he hasnt been called back in 3 to 4 camps and has been ignoring uruguays adances until now because "he can only hold out for so long" I find it hard to believe he isnt good enough to be called up for us but he is good enough for uruguay. Does anyone know anything more? Is his brother telling the truth?

Their last squad was purely domestic based on Wiki.
