Uruguay First Division

Fenix (Cavallini) 1 - 1 Racing at half time

Cavillini scores his 8th of the season to make then 1 - 0 for Fenix.

I dont care what the level of uruguay is. This guy needs to start showing up. He is Scoring more goals than any other cdn strikers.

The level that he is scoring at is extremely important and from what I have seen so far it is a quite low level. He does need to start showing up but if he doesn't I am not really feeling that we are losing a whole lot either. I don't see what he has done in his career to be seen as the Canadian Striker Jesus on here. Put Ricketts, Jackson or Haber in a league where they are standing in front of goal with no defenders in sight and have lots of time and they would be scoring good numbers as well, indeed I suspect more than Cavallini is.

Seriously can we stop talking about this guy until:

1) He shows some interest in playing for us

2) He actually accomplishes something in his career, ie. impresses either with the national team and/or in a better league than he is currently playing in

Maybe he will be a good player for us some day but until I see him actually accomplish something in his career (and he is starting to be getting a bit old to be still playing in Uruguay) count me as sceptical and tired of hearing about him as our new hope.

Well this thread is titled Canadians abroad for the week of Nov 14 to 20th and he is a Canadian cap tied to us and playing abroad who scored this week so we won't really stop talking about him in this thread.

But I agree with Floro telling him like it is. Unless you're comitted beat it. Show up for our training camps and friendlies or else dont bother showing up for WCQ and Gold Cup.

I have no problem with people posting his playing time/goals in this thread, it is the continuous talk about him as some sort of great striker that we need to get into camp that is irritating whether in this thread or other ones. Hoillet gets too much conversation here too but at least he is playing at a very high level. The level that Cavallini is playing/scoring at is a crucial detail in this conversation as is the fact that very few of his goals are very impressive, often it is a keeper mistake or he is completely alone in front of the keeper for a ridiculous amount of time because the defending seems below NASL level. The level of discussion here should be somewhat relative to the level of accomplishment of the player and in Cavallini's case that should be equivalent to a player playing in NASL or Finland until he proves capable of better.

I think we can all agree that the defending is brutal in most of Cavallini's goals but is that really the average level or is it just bad timing?  From watching the highlights I've seen I'd have to agree with Grizzly but I just find it hard to believe that a league in the top half of South America could be poorer than NASL in that regard.  Especially when you consider that many of our rivals in CONCACAF have defenders on clubs at lower levels than the ones Cavallini scores against.

Jeeze, Simeon has fallen on hard times. Was scoring regularly in the Championship and even potting a couple in the Premier League now he can't crack a League 1 line up.

He's got to figure something out. Would a move to MLS be able to kick start his goal scoring or would that kill any chance of returning to Europe?
