University of Saskatchewan wins their first Canada West Title defeating Alberta 4-2. Saskatchewan had beaten UVic 2-0 in the semi's while Alberta advanced by the same score line against UBC. Central Defender Jordian Farahani lead Saskatchewan with two goal - one a 20 meter strike to the top corner, the second a header from a set piece.

UBC defeated UVic 2-1 in the 3rd place game. Interesting to see if UBC gets a wild card over Alberta on the basis of a strong regular season and defending champion.

Congrats to them.

A few of the Sask lads were with the caps PDL squad this summer. I wonder if they have what it takes to play NASL or higher.

I lost in the national final to Alberta in 2003. No sympathy from me for their loss.

There is no wild card berth to the CIS championships. Based on this link, it looks like each conference gets 2 berths with the 2nd going to the loser of the final. So that would be USask and Alberta.

Ah good. I don't like wildcards even though the U of S benefited last year in men's basketball. Also more reasonable given that Canada West is now two conferences in soccer, and only cross over during final four. Not sure if it plays out the same down east.

Quebec has 1 table. Top 4 make playoffs, and it's not all in one place. Technically, both semi-finals and the final could be played at 3 different grounds if the final is between the 3rd and 4th seeds.

This year,  UQÀM won on the men's side in the final against Montréal. Laval, which is usually the best team lost 7 players after something that happened at the Challenge Trophy with Royal Sélect Beauport.  (11 of the 20 of Beauport players got kicked out and since the coach, Samir Ghrib does double duty as coach of Laval and Beauport, including 7 who were on the Rouge et Or. Among the number was Fabrice Lassonde.)

The women's tournament was won by Laval against Montreal.
