Ruffian
I came across this game in a Glasgow Rangers forum. A game played in 1930 in Toronto between Rangers and Toronto Ulster United. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN7KTOrA9G0 Seems The Glasgow Rangers made a North American tour that year that included Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. http://www.thecoplandroad.org/2013/06/the-good-ship-rangers-and-north.html The article states that soccer had a large following and had healthy professional leagues in the early part of that century. Crowds as big as current professional teams. Apparently Toronto Ulster United was a successful team then. http://www.thesoccerhalloffame.ca/en-us/halloffame/virtualhalloffame/organizationofdistinction/torontoulsterunited.aspx Did not know where to post, but I thought it was interesting to see how soccer in Canada was back then. jpg75
This was discussed on a thread at Bigsoccer about 4-5 years ago. Pretty cool stuff really...that stadium was torn down in the late 30's or 40's and a subdivision was built (and still stands south of gerrard).
